DRL the drone racing league twelve of the world's best fpv pilots battle each other across the longest most complex forces ever seen for maximum season points of world champion this is throw racing [Music] welcome to the 2019 DRL Allianz World Championship the premier international drone racing circuit and has been a wild ride this season with the most intense competition the sport has ever seen after six levels of racing several pilots differentiated themselves but none more than those of Vanover coming into the season all 12 pilots had the desire and hope if not expectation that they would become the world champion I want to win this year more than any other year because I know I can do it I've proven that I can consistently out fly everybody I just want to make it happen to be honest I don't really care about winning like one level I want to get to championship I'm not here to podium that's all great and definitely will feel good about it but I'm here with one goal in mind that's win this championship at each level only the podium finishers earn season points by four first two for second and one for third the pilot with the most points at the end of seven levels becomes the 2019 DRL Allianz world champion thanks for joining us we look back on levels one through six the season started in Miami Florida we're at Hard Rock Stadium home to the NFL's Miami Dolphins for level one our six finalists take their place in the cockpit where they'll race six regular heats to qualify for the winner-take-all golde haters included in this group is nurtured in green the defending 2018 TRL world champion the biggest perk that I have of being world champion in the offseason was throwing out the first pitch for a Diamondbacks game at Chase Field in Phoenix Arizona this is crazy to be in front of a 10,000 people and threw a strike so I can't complain also in this group are jet and gab who have had the most storied rivalry in DRL the semis gab and I were neck-and-neck and that was honestly to be expected this field also has a new face 19 year old rookie band over I can't believe I'm really sitting like next to you guys this sounds so cheesy but like watching it on the show from third person and then sitting here and like looking left and like seeing the backdrop and everything is like freaking me out right now it's awesome it's gonna be fun this is so cool my it's super weird though hello everybody I'm Craig Hummer here alongside drone racing pilot Tony Knittle Tony Vancouver sounds like a fanboy but look where he's city handovers in the first seat which means he's the top seat coming out of the semi-finals he won an extraordinary five heats in a row and over would continue that streak winning the first three heats of the finals it is ban over in the flashing drone trying to go three for three in this final and he dies three for three baby two-time world champion jet one heat for [Music] [Applause] then it was time for heat five the next heat will be very interesting we know Vanover constraint wins together but can he recover from a loss and win again regression to the mean and tell myself right now I want to push but I'm just saying I keep doing my thing tech ops are almost finished prepping the drones for the next race we know fan / and jet are in the gold heat but there are only two heats left in these finals which means only two more chances for the other pilots finals by they all head down the main floor to the square game we heard some contact on the ground rotating into the helix five man over in the lead jet red and second these guys are pushing it so hard that's why you're skipping the ground that guy laid back to the tiny bit Vanover in the flashing drone she's up and over into the stadium dive dab in yellow pushing jet for that second place jab doing a great job taking the inside line that's why he was able to catch up there the top three through the dangerous watch date back to the main floor Vanover jab and check in a chuckle that's the first time we've really seen him off his line that gets jetan red the opportunity followed by gavin yellow a great job by man over a game composure and hold on while he made that mistake final lap jet through the diamond game up and over leading as they go into the stadium bag but banned overs come back Shetty first Vanover at second the dangerous watch meet again then the over stakes can be had here some more contact you can hear it but that doesn't affect chef he's looking for a second win this is the run and the fight per second was legitimate too close to call but remember the wind is what matters and jet wins for the second time dude we were way too much throttle we all bought like slowly sinking oh it's getting close in close we are maxing these rigs out yeah I was full throttle and it just I hit the ground like and over he did that dodo that was good Vanover led from the start until his first real mistakes of these finals jet got close its first swatched feet but Vanover held him off until the very end of lap 1 when he overcorrected through the gate and hit the floor he did a great job saving it but fell to third behind jet gap jet held the leaps to rest of the way in while cabin Vanover had an epic dogfight for second Vanover gap in the helix climb then pulled away in the stadium dive gab caught man over at the swatch gate and the two were neck and neck all the way in with gaff taking second by half a drone lane [Music] the Racing's there we got a lot of challenge this is what we want this is why we're here this is the only place you're gonna get fish Racing gap set er L is the only place they get this kind of racing absolutely TRL's proprietary technology allows for the longest most diverse courses have ever seen and more importantly their spec racing with the racer for DRL redesigned this drone from the ground up and built over 500 for this event they perform identically which levels the playing field and means the only difference is how each pilot flies racer 4 is TRL's next generation drum it's a professional high-end racing machine made for a global sport hoods already rather the rest it's made for competition today [Music] the racer four is the most special racing drones that has ever been developed it's super unique no one has built a drone like this that looks this good and goes this fast we want a drone that's going to inspire the world and excite them something that you can follow at home something that's high performance something that looks beautiful to be as amazing as it can be the race of four has lots of new technology in it that the last racers didn't have there are a lot more powerful easier to fly more spectacular to see it has a thousand LEDs on it high voltage power train it has a gigantic battery to fly far away and a very advanced radio system they're all identical it's this even playing field I think that's part of what makes great racing everyone's why exactly the same specs so it makes it 100% about the body which pilot is the most scale which pilot actually the best performer and that's exciting racer the best pilots on the edge of what's possible racer four is the manifestation of that gab 77 people on to win the final regular heat of racing setting up a three pilot showdown in the winner-take-all going it's finals go 803 up van over in that pole position platform he should be first to the square of Dayton in the helix fight he is she can't miss the flashy drone Jenna red in second gap off to a rough start skipping the ground that's gonna get in his head just a little bit he said hip hop fitness for taped all scenario you've got in front first time through the dangerous watch game makeovers through Jen's Roo we heard some contact though been over back to the main floor he's in front jet in second in the red everyone still up as we start left to Vanover just a little faster than these guys through these turns he's got it dialed the rest needs a styled airline in Vanover trying to put the puzzle chat with contact he looked to be down that's more space for Vanover into the stadium dive damn right they're trying to stay close vinegars got one more time through the swatch gate [Music] as well say hello to the future it has a ride in the form of a 19 year old from Texas well duh oh man I tried to cut the helix too tight can I like lay down yeah that first lap I was full sent it over led from the start but all three were in contention until the second helix climb Jets approach was good but he simply didn't pitch down and up at the top of the climb hitting the gate and taking himself out gap flew a great race but fell just 4/10 of a second short gap beat the previous course record by half a second but Vanover flew the race of his life gap got close reentering the main floor on the sprint to the finish but Vanover was too quick destroying his previous course record by nearly a full second Vanover after the golden heat you secured the win and you said I did it we know that you won the level but what does it mean to you it means everything to me I'm doing this for my dad he's watching up in heaven he he's a champion and this is just the first step to getting there and I'm really just so great grateful so blessed to be here for me this is 10 years flying anything RC and even more flying drone racing and to be on TRL again is incredible and to pull off the win it's just something I've been wanting to do ever since I watched the first year I'll race ever that broadcasted I wanted to to be in that position I want to feel that energy and I wanted to to prove to myself that all the hard work I put into here was worth something and to do it is just it's amazing so the rookie proved he was legit and over dab and jet stood on the first podium of the year turning five two and one season points respectively Vanover would get his second chance for more season points at level two Hard Rock Stadium a second event of the doubleheader the drone racing league brought to you by Allianz global leaders in asset management investments and insurance by the US Air Force aim high and by swatch welcome back to our review of the first six levels of the 2019 DRL Allianz World Championship season we're in Miami Florida for the finals of level 2 our Rock Stadium five of our six pilots enter the arena with the goal of redeeming disappointment from level one the 19 year old rookie ban over who made history winning his first PRL event CPUC I don't really feel the pressure of being a rookie your youngest pilot in a way though I do feel the pressure to do well because I have a reputation especially winning level one so now it's time to go show people that it wasn't a fluke these pilots are the six best from the level two semi-finals Toki what a field we have here absolutely as you said Vanover is coming off the tremendous level one win newark nub and gab finished one-two-three at the 2018 World Championship these guys all know what it takes to win big races to win level 2 would be redemption for not doing as well as I wanted in level 1 I'd love to get into that golden heat to battle it out to lay it all on the line I'm very relieved to be in the finals somehow the pressure is higher this year I don't know everyone's been practicing very hard and everyone's really fast in the 2018 season as a rookie the fact that I was able to come out and put myself up and put myself above the other veterans was a really proud moment for me each heat is two laps in and around the stadium each lap starts with a long straightaway into the critical helix climb it's another long straight to the dramatic stadium dive next is the ascent through the inimical swatch game and back to the main floor for the end of the lap more sprint to the finish level once winner ran over one the first heat but then got beat by nub inherent and each two and three each securing a spot in the winner-take-all golde heat Tony - very distinct camps you've got the three pilots that are in and of course the three pilots that have struggled in are down to their last chance yeah these guys have only one key and what they really need to do right now is hit the reset switch to get out of that mind space that they're in to get their composure back to win a race we're down to the last regular heat before the golden heat finals heat six [Music] they all know how to do this so dramatic run to the square gate up in the hill it's fun you're King breed right there you got bent over and gaps episode and contact get gap benefit he's out in front he needs this win gap 707 through the diamond gate up and over into the stadium dive loosely followed by the flashing throw to banner these three are staying close no one's letting up gab 707 makes it cleanly through all the top three are cleanly through back to the main floor gap 707 in yellow still in front staff 707 student great job holding on to the front but he needs to find a way to create some distance out of these three gaps 707 in yellow is the only one that needs this win to assure himself was spotting the golden heat and he's doing everything he can he's gotta press on this next turn Vanover coming in trying to put the pressure on he's going [Applause] I am this swatch game will determine it all since he's out vandals ritenour oh and dirt goes down nineteen-year-old wonderkid tiny boys Stasi Newark finishes in six go to let's go to heat now ready for the golden heat back Vanover I've got one question two back-to-back heat wins going into the golden heat what does that do for your confidence it's where I want it to be it's not too high because I know that it was still a close heat the good news is the pilot gaps some of the seven who was the most worried about made a mistake and regardless I still would have had him on the pass so I feel better I know I can beat Newark I know I can beat Noah but I just need to do I did the last two heats and there's no chance they can beat me I'm just in my rhythm so as long as I launch good get out in front and just tell myself to fly my own race don't make any dumb mistakes I think it's mine short and concise Vanover short and concise yeah he talks too much maybe not all of the pilots are fans of the rookie sensation but love him or hate him they are all paying attention to him Vanover is kind of a new wild card I think he's got a few eyes on him at the amateur level he's very well known to be one of the fastest out there I have to give him respect because he has a lot of dedication he gets out he puts in the time and he trains like no other I know personally that I can be a these pilots out here on any of these tracks any quad doesn't matter any radio goggles I just need to focus on what I needed you personally told everything else out and go win but at the same time he is very arrogant and I don't appreciate that Vani Vani Vani Vani the bigmouth brat I see an insecure little boy with Vani he wants reassurance from the rest of the guys I grew up in the south where you have to be humble and he doesn't seem to feel that way we are getting ready for the winner-take-all golden eat started with six pilots and work down to three Newark Vanover and up the winner of this next team will be the level two champ earning a critical five season points in his quest to become the 2019 DRL Allianz world champion Vanover in the flashing disco drone nub in purple and Newark in green finals expected to pay off it'll be the square gate and then the heel expired van over and for eight launched by turf to keep it close - pilots nerf chasing dirt closing the gap this is for the level to win the swatch game for the first time up and thrill every close pressing the base no stand over keeps the lead but just barely pressing Vanover is not used to be fast [Applause] on the table over a little turn but sandover's not letting him get away [Applause] yeah Newark a nail-biter of a golden heat what does it mean to you to take this level win it's I mean it's it's redemption from level one that's for sure it's a continuation of last season it's it's it's a little bit more confirmation that I'm where I need to be that I can hang with the best in the world and come out here and get a get a course win early in the season I'm super psyched about that after two levels the rookie fan over sits on top with seven season points Newark since second but five gap is in third with two while jet nub each have one after Miami everyone headed to the Twin Cities of Minnesota for levels three and four they're a very different track presented unique opportunities and challenges for the pilots our look back on the 2019 season continues this is DRL the throw racing league [Music] [Music] welcome back to our review of the DRL Allianz World Championship season the brand new dazzling Allianz Field is our host for level 3 twin cities the top six pilots out of the semis now take their place in the cockpit where they'll race 7 heats around the stadium each eat here at Allianz Field is two laps with two critical switchbacks and the sky gates course is absolutely amazing out of all the drone courses I've flown over the last few years it's the best track of our flock it's a little bit of a mix it's wide open where it needs to be and then it's got spots where every single pilot is trying to take a different line figure out what's faster we have made it to the golden heat of the level 3 finals three pilots are here and now it is winner-take-all we started with six pilots now fan over Gavin Duncan remain to race one heat to determine the level champion it's the Battle of smooth versus raw it's the battle right now yeah but you don't want to be facing Duncan wings on fire all your guns I don't know that's scary the keys to victory Tony let's just go down the line let's start with Vanover what does he have to do that over has proven that when he flies his race from start to finish he wins so what he has to do is make sure that when the tone sound he's completely ready no other thoughts about winning or celebrating let's switch to gap what are his keys gap needs peak performance gap is the most consistent pilot at 98% he needs to push it to a hundred percent with flawless execution and I feel like our third and final pilot is definitely the wild card Duncan absolutely he's proven that he's the fastest on this course here and no one's gonna take that away from him so if he could do that now when it counts to the boat he'll get that win finals and over from the first podium but it's gap first number one man over in gamut of light jumping right there as well this is the first switchback man over with that traditional straight line has given him a slightly look at these do they're that big bag Gavin Duncan right there Vanover Gavin yellow Duncan and white in third the concourse the fastest murder to lose up to the sky gates this is Duncan's favorite spot it's still banned over in front along the western run they'll drop down once again to the swatch deep in or still maintains that position [Applause] so this cap cap gone up already making the push along the top course no you take it I think so I don't know I couldn't see I think I wonder you take it I never saw anyone in front yeah yeah good he took it you took it all yeah good job Annie yeah level three and he is able to put his stamp on this level Duncan's body in one but it wasn't the case Wow motional when you race I'm like did he somehow beat me I was like all right you want to talk about a close race giving fans exactly what they came for that was it in the final there oh no absolutely I had a great first lap I'm kind of known as in like level one I had an excellent first lap and I always kind of slowed down a bit a lot too I think that's just mentally me telling myself my heart starts beating it's like okay we're in front let's not mess up right and watching the replay I didn't realize how close gap got to me he made one mistake and that was it he probably would have beat me to that finish his line was looking really good but a nail-biter ever finished so much fun I love these guys so much because three different flying styles but three great pilots who are all pushing the limits what we can do out here well it's a lofty goal but right now you can celebrate another level win congratulations this one's also for my dad too we're getting there yeah we're going I was giving it everything I I could have just do close to that light pole tough luck I would have items' Vanover now has a significant lead in the season standings with 12 points nerf remains in second with five and gabon third with three Gavin Duncan fell short in level three but they would get another shot in the second event of the doubleheader at Allianz field level four next this is er L a drone racing lead [Music] welcome back to Allianz field here in st. Paul Minnesota we are down to our final regular heat in the finals of level 4 for pilots already in the gold key tour trying to earn their way there and one man has two wins that's fan over Vanover had a rough start here and we wondered if you'd be able to turn it around well he did great launches tight lines and no mistakes the last two heats let's go back to gap he was right behind Vanover last teeth but couldn't close out the win now that's become a theme for him for nearly two years gab has been the so close but not quite pilot since winning level two in 2017 he's finished on the podium eight times but never on the top step this is a dry spell he's burning to end you know life's unfair sometimes and it's one of the things that you know defines a bit who you are how I've performed in the last few seasons I know that I can consistently be faster than everybody I've just not been very lucky I'm not getting pushed down by it or anything I know it's how you can step up from that that really makes a decision on who you are and how things evolve for you I want to win because I know I can do it I have the ability to beat everybody so it's just a matter of keeping my training regiment going it's usually two parts of the training that have to come together for example when you go play a poker game you get your two cards at the start for me that's the amount of practice that I can do the more I practice the better my cards when I start the game but then once you're playing there's a bit of luck there's a bit of reading your opponent's see what they're gonna play if you need all those three parts to get there you need luck you need skill at the start and you need to make the right choices it's something that it's in my reach I just need to reach out and you know grab it gab is already in the gold heat a win here would give him a better start position freely and flexy it's win or go home finals eat six last chance were flexi inert metal this first gap right behind it we've seen this before in the switch that number one it starts with the swatch game Vanover with the cleanest line again to the square gate drops through the Pentagon game and on this respect number two you have inert looking for a chance to catch up but it's just not happening so far it's hard to catch up against the lead and a pilot like that Vanover through the sky game second he's going for it on the west run wow that was amazing but fan over passes right back look at this [Applause] - over the last time they were in this position can you do it again Vanover to the sky gate that dive through the finish Vanover get that gap second it is it sir you did yep good do you I was just right on you came that second lucky pasty good race and then you came up out of nowhere man heck yeah good race employs the regular heats of the level for finals have been completed we know there will be four pilots in the gold meet ban over gab 707 Duncan and Shaggy have one more heat to determine the level four champion was the pace on that no that was another record-setting heat he's not gonna have how many of those in a row no you just did three hours over the neuro four pilots the winner of this next heat is the level four champion Vanover starts on podium one gap 707 on podium for Duncan otome five shaggy six finals the other pilots have some real estate to make up against anima being over definitely versus already card is over [Music] [Applause] what an emotional win or gab 7:07 wait for that unforced error from Vanover and he capitalizes on that mistake holds on to the wind all the way through the drought is over gab you're known as one of the most consistent pilots in drone racing but the last level win for you was in 2017 level 2 atlanta aftermath how does it feel to be back on top you know I can't believe this you know I might just gratitude at this moment I can't you know thanks so much to everyone who's believed in me thanks and my girlfriend family it's been so long coming and people have been telling me you know you know you deserve this you got to get you got to get it and to finally make it I just can't why do you believe that you deserve it um I don't know two years ago I was leader in the season overtook me at the last possible moment and beat me last year I was feeling strong I had the course record on the track and the golden heat just went over in a snap like this and I know I have the speed I know I just need to keep it together and find the right formula for me I've worked actually really hard I found a new way of training I will admit and I think that was really really determining a factor for me tonight and that's huge on behalf of all your fans and us here at DRL we're all very proud of you and congratulations and we can't wait to see what's next thanks so much whoa an emotional win for gab that was two years in the making and bumps him up in the season standings after four levels Vanover remains in first with 13 points dabbe moves into second with 8 and Newark sits in third with five the TRL season heads to Phoenix Arizona and the largest crowd ever for a drone race level five Chase Field coming up this is TRL puts roam racing lead [Music] this is the URL Allianz World Championship welcome to Chase Field where we've turned an iconic baseball stadium into a high-speed three-dimensional racetrack we've made it to the gold needs at level five Chase Field four guys are in it no gap 707 Luxy and Vanover each heat is two half mile loops through port to gates position iein whoa Criss crossing the stadium and this course TK is a significant factor it truly is because it's so open the pilots need to focus on carrying momentum through the turn more than carving tight lines the smoothest pilots here will rise to the top the switchback has been a key differentiator here all night take us through this critical maneuver the switchback is a complex double u-turn requiring precise timing the goals are minimize distance flown while maximizing exit speed from each you turn the keys to the first u-turn are making a single turn while staying as close to the diamond gate as possible pilots pitch up slightly as they roll and yaw right they must time the turn so that they line up the diamond and square gates in a straight line the keys to the second u-turn are beginning to turn prior to the square gate and a peck seen as close to the gate as possible they pitch up slightly as they roll right with minimal yaw if they don't line up the two gates in the first u-turn they must make additional corrections which is slower if they don't begin the second u-turn early enough they extend their line path the square gate which is slower mistiming either turn causes them to hit the diamond gate or the square game if you want to win a level you need to first make the golden e and now we know our four pilots and their colors nuf in purple gap 707 yellow flux e the swatch pilot red and white and Vanover the flashing disco drum final [Music] winner-take-all fantastic start from Doug he's got climbing to the sky gate gab and fan over chasing him look at these guys ducks in a row Craig not doing a great job keeping in that day though as he just wonderfully dropped down little switch back to the first time now I'll be able to accelerate out of the square gate but gap is keeping it blue there on the right side of the course around the right-field pole back to the Pentagon gate and the start of last number to sub in the lead these guys behind a bit of a bobble there goes down he's blows again gap has closed the distance to switch back yet again gaps running at a time there was a bump that drop snap back the sweeping left Oh [Applause] fantastic launch off the podium getting to the front of the group and not letting go a tiny bit knocks back the wind and sends a message of his own now first off congratulations on a tremendous accomplishment can you put it into words what does it mean to you it means everything getting these points getting real points up on the board it shows these other pilots that I have what it takes still to stand up there on the podium at the end of the season and come back for another year before now what was holding you back that you overcame on this level I think it was a combination of things I wasn't getting a ton of practice I was in my own head a lot I wasn't thinking very positive I was dwelling on all of these negative things it would happen to me during a race and this time I just let it all go and just kept on flying my race so how do you take that how do you bottle it up and use it for the future levels that we have in front of us it's just an extreme confidence boost I've shown the guys hey I'm here I'm staying and you're not getting rid of me well once again congratulations you earned every bit of it thank you the overall season standings are getting interesting Vanover misses his first podium of the year but remains on top with 13 points gab is now just three points back with 10 and with this win now moves into third with six level six here in Phoenix would give the pilots another shot at season points with huge implications in the world championship title race next the drone racing league brought to you by aliens global leaders in asset management investments and insurance by the US Air Force aim high and by swatch welcome back to our review of the first six levels of the 2019 TRL Allianz World Championship season getting set for Heat number four of our finals here at level six Phoenix fan overs one two heats he's at the gold meet that's why training for gap just won the last teeth joining Vanover in that gold deep well I'm not gonna lie not do a little stretch a little bit less stress there by yourself winning Heat no I I'll give you a bit of confidence you know right no way to get by yourself people don't like being my team so anything that just gave me more confidence knowing I can make that make up that time on you out of all people I stay the last one Gabon Vanover have really separated themselves from the others here tonight TK what are you seeing that they're doing better you know that's a good question I don't think it's one thing in particular more everything all of them know the track inside and out and the best line through each element but Vanover and gab are executing those lines almost perfectly for two laps when the others make even a small misstep at any turn they fall behind they're up and away the left turn to the Pentagon Kade Vanover with the hole shot through the watch be built slime bin over in front cap 707 and yellow and jet conserve that was an aggressive turn out of a swash beat by gathers like two different clothes that distance to the top and he's always great on this drop here he goes this is the switchback Vanover gab jet they exit but gab stay right there with it over that's usually where he flips a gap in get this ringing a little wide out of that switchback that slows it down over there see this watch me so climb again jab is going for it there he goes on the drop he excels here and it's proving it right there gab momentarily passing Dan over but the swing back again gap slightly in front [Applause] [Music] [Applause] thank God dang it I don't know how to catch you guys that's your bedtime or what yeah it's true good job good racin gab how fun is it for a pilot of your level to race at this level you know this is the stuff that we all dream about we all think when we go out on the field let's say we practice together we'll get it heat like that and then we go to the next one and then nothing happens again it's one of those you just get one of them but we just did two of them in a row so I think we got something going here it's time for the golden heat flux e's last-second victory heat six means he joins Vanover and gap the stakes are huge if Vanover wins this heat he will have enough season points to clinch the world championship title if gabber flux ii win the entire season podium frame he determined in level seven all three away game over first to the Pentagon cave he'll be first to the slicing oh yeah kiss the swatch gate and is done fan over through the sky gate luck she's gonna have to play catch-up now into the switchback set up van over this is one of those maneuvers confidence in every heat well flux he's in a bad position here he's got to play catch up but that's not good for him if he could do this on every single one of these turns and changes a little bit of ground he can have his fighting chance he needs to figure it out remember these guys know each other's flying very well it was camped ban over weeks ago where they were together spending hours upon hours each other's tricks in treats but you have to believe but over the lightness [Music] unbelievable one little mistake like that costume give that to van over the crown has been passed all hail band over the season is his captain VIN over finally some smiles but also a lot of emotion that we saw just now what does it mean to be not just the level champion but now the world champion of the 2019 season I'm doing this for my dad and I love you that like this is for you you were a world champion and you inspired me it's this is this is for him this is for you he's watching up in heaven and my lord and everything just the support and everything this is hopefully the first of many but for me right now this is just probably the best one in my entire life I feel like I've I've served a purpose that I maybe can't grasp just yet but I hope these guys see it and I really hope that they see the motivation the passion in my faith and everything behind the scenes because that's also why I'm here I'm here to serve Him and not to serve myself or other people it's incredible you've racked up quite a trophy case here in your rookie season looking back at what you've accomplished what are you most proud of just my improvement in my dedication I've really focused so hard on this season trying to be the best pilot and that was it and just trying to not just be the best pilot for myself New to the 2021 Season
Season-long contracts: These contracts have a minimum initial term of one season. They may include a unilateral team option to extend the term for one additional season. The maximum term of a season-long contract is three seasons, including any team option year.
30-day contracts: If a team has at least seven players signed to season-long contracts, a team may sign additional players to 30-day contracts. Upon expiration of a 30-day contract, a player becomes a free agent who may negotiate with other teams. Teams do not have the option to extend 30-day contracts unilaterally.
First, there is no longer any limit to the number of players who may be designated as two-way players at any given time. Additionally, two-way players on teams with no academy team affiliate are now eligible to participate in Contenders competitions.

2020.10.08 14:20 OIF-DV $MSNVF Mission Ready Announces New Purchase Orders, Provides SOE Protest Update
VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct. 08, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mission Ready Solutions Inc
. (“Mission Ready” or the “Company”) (TSXV: MRS) is pleased to announce that, further to its September 18, 2020 news release announcing new contract awards valued at an estimated $127 million, with a ceiling of $435 million (the “C&TContracts”), and its September 25, 2020 news release reporting that it had received an aggregate of approximately $96 million in purchase orders (each purchase order, a “PO”) across the C&T Contracts, the Company has received $16 million in additional PO’s bringing the total received as of the date of this announcement to approximately $112 million.
All purchase orders received to date across the C&T Contracts call for delivery of the products between October 2020 and March 2021. In accordance with the terms of the C&T Contracts, the Defense Logistics Agency will remit payment to Unifire within 30 days of delivery of the products pursuant to each purchase order.
The related announcements referenced herein can be viewed at www.MRSCorp.com
or via the direct links below: September 25, 2020 – Mission Ready Announces $58.5 Million in New Purchase OrdersSeptember 18, 2020 – Mission Ready Awarded New Contracts for an Estimated $127 Million with a Ceiling of $435 Million
SOE Protest UpdateThe Company provides the following update with respect to recent developments – and next steps – in the Company’s efforts to reverse a December 2019 decision by the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (“DLA”) to exclude Unifire, Inc.’s (“Unifire”) proposal from the competition under SPE8EJ-18-R-0001 (Special Operational Equipment (“SOE”) Tailored Logistics Support (“TLS”) Program) (the “Pre-award Protest”). Further to a Company announcement dated March 11, 2020
related to the Pre-award Protest filed with the U.S. Court of Federal Claims (“COFC”), on October 6, 2020, Unifire filed a Notice of Appeal of the COFC’s judgement in response to a September 24, 2020 decision by the COFC denying Unifire’s challenge of the exclusion of its proposal from the competition. Unifire will pursue an appeal in the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in addition to seeking a continued stay of the competition for the SOE TLS follow-on contracts while its appeal is pending. Unifire believes that it has a meritorious claim that DLA’s decision to exclude Unifire’s proposal was made in a manner inconsistent with prescribed U.S. federal government regulations. Unifire intends to prosecute its appeal vigorously. The outcome of this proceeding cannot be predicted with certainty, and there can be no assurance that this protest will be resolved in a manner favorable to Unifire.
Buck Marshall, President and CEO of Mission Ready, states, “We recognize and appreciate the value of our incumbency as a prime vendor on the SOE TLS contract – and will certainly take all proper steps to continue in this capacity – however, it is important to note that over 90% of Unifire’s sales captured during 2020 have been entirely outside of the SOE TLS contract vehicle. We remain optimistic that we will have the opportunity to continue performing on the SOE TLS contract for the foreseeable future. While it is true that a piece of our heart belongs with the SOE TLS contract due to the fact that it has helped shape the Company into who we are today, the opportunities to do business with the United States Department of Defense are nearly immeasurable and we have full confidence that we will continue to accelerate along our current sales trajectory, irrespective of our future status as an SOE TLS prime vendor. The exponential growth that we have achieved through entirely unrelated channels so far this year is a testament to the fact that we are nimble, adaptable and empowered to reach new heights in our quest to become a foremost leader in the world of government contracting.”
Monetary values referenced herein have been converted from US currency (USD) to Canadian currency (CAD) using an exchange rate of 1.32 and rounded down to the nearest 0.5 million.
About Mission Ready Solutions Inc. Mission Ready specializes in providing comprehensive government contracting solutions through its privileged access to a host of government contracting vehicles including its Special Operational Equipment (“SOE”) Tailored Logistics Support (“TLS”) contract administered by the United States Defense Logistics Agency (“DLA”), and Multiple Award Schedule contracts administered by the United States General Services Administration (“GSA”).
Mission Ready’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Unifire, Inc. (“Unifire”), is one of six companies, globally, authorized to provide equipment and designated services under DLA’s SOE TLS program. Unifire is a designated Small Business and an industry-leading manufacturer and distributor of over 1.5 million fire, military, emergency, and law enforcement products. As an incumbent awardee of the SOE TLS contract, with extensive knowledge and experience in providing solutions to the US Federal Government, Unifire utilizes its highly-efficient, scalable technology infrastructure to provide procurement solutions for program managers, military and federal contracting offices, base supply centers, and other governmental supply agencies.

2020.10.05 05:38 GoneRampant1 [Video Games] The reboot that got rebooted: The rise and fall of DmC: Devil May Cry
Let's cut through the pre-amble:
What is Devil May Cry? Devil May Cry
is an action series developed and published by Japanese company Capcom, beginning with Devil May Cry 1 in 2001 for the Playstation 2 (Here's an advert showing it as part of Sony's holiday lineup
that included landmark gaming titles such as Final Fantasy X, Grand Theft Auto 3, Metal Gear Solid 2 and... Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance). The game series began as a prototype build for Resident Evil 4 that had more of an overt action focus than the acclaimed horror franchise was known for. Rather than scrap the build, Capcom saw potential in the idea of a stylish action game, and gave director Hideki Kamiya
permission to make it a full title.
Kamiya would involuntarily leave the series after DMC 1 as Capcom didn't ask him to work on DMC 2. Instead, a still-to-this-day unknown phantom director was put in charge of the game and he ran it into the ground. With less than half a year before DMC 2's 2003 release, Capcom brought in a new director to course-correct and get the game out for release: Hideaki Itsuno. In less than six months, Itsuno would rally the team, basically make the entire game, and create several features that would go on to become series staples, and while DMC 2 sold well, it was critically panned for being a very boring game. Itsuno, not wanting his reputation to be sullied, came back in 2005 with Devil May Cry 3, generally considered one of the greatest action games of all time. From here several core traits are instilled: chief among which being style meters that track the player's skill with combos and Dante having a style system that lets him use different movesets.
And it's in 2008 with the release of Devil May Cry 4, marking the series going multiplatform for the first time as it came out on the PS3 and Xbox 360, that this story really begins:
The build up to 2010
With DMC 4's release in 2008, Capcom set the sales expectation
that the game would sell 1.8 million units by the end of the fiscal year. DMC 4 would sell two million units in under a month
, but Capcom were a bit unimpressed. They were hoping that now that DMC was on a wider range of platforms that the sales would correspondingly go up, but instead the game just saw a modest increase over DMC 3. The cost of game development had also shot up in the new console generation, making Capcom more concerned about DMC4's sales just being fine,
especially coming off of huge sales juggarnauts from 2007 such as Halo 3, Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Bioshock. (It doesn't help that DMC 4 had a very rushed development leading to the now infamous case of Dante's playable chapters just being Nero's but backwards)
Japan at the time was also in a weird place when it came to gaming. The mobile phone gaming market was about to take off, and the playerbase in Japan was already smaller than the worldwide market for obvious reasons. In the home regions, it was safer to look into handheld gaming, and while Capcom had dallied
with the idea of a DMC game on the Playstation Portable (at one point considering a remake of the first game that reached in-game screenshots and box art that was quietly shelved for unknown reasons, alongside a prequel focusing on Dante's father Sparda), these ideas never left the ground. Seeing how Western markets were more traditionally concerned with console gaming at this time (and the success of the God of War franchise proved Action was a genre people wanted), Capcom's idea was simple:
Give their IPs to Western studios and let them take a crack at it, with the idea being their knowledge of what the West wants
would let the games sell better. The results were mixed. The Bionic Commando reboot is nowadays more known for the twist of YOUR WIFE IS THE ROBOT ARM and only sold 27,000 units in a month,
but Dead Rising did fairly well under a Capcom Vancouver branch until Dead Rising 4 happened
and uh... kinda killed the series because it was awful.
Capcom eventually set their sights on giving the West a crack at DMC, leading to them eyeballing several studios. This worked out well for them in that Itsuno was also burnt out. After having spent five straight years on DMC and having redeemed its image after DMC 2, Itsuno was ready to take a break and make his dream game: Dragon's Dogma,
a dark fantasy game that is very fun. It got a Netflix anime adaptation recently that is... not as fun. But while Itsuno was making Dragon's Dogma, Capcom had some time to spitball handing the series off. They eventually settled on Ninja Theory, an up and coming British team best known for Heavenly Sword (a very pretty game with mediocre action combat and a priority on storytelling), and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West (a modernisation of Journey to the West that was very pretty but priotizied story over gameplay). Rumors began to circulate in early 2010
that Ninja Theory had acquired the license and would be making a prequel focusing on Dante's early days, but it would only become clear at Tokyo Games Show that year when DmC: Devil May Cry* was formally announced.
And the fanbase collectively hated it.
(* Yes that does technically mean this reboot's name is Devil may Cry: Devil May Cry. I'm going to call it DmC from here to differentiate it from the core series)
The TGS Trailer
For those unaware of DMC, I should stress that by 2010, it had a reputation for a certain flair and theatics. Dante was known to be a goofball in cutscenes, taunting enemy demons and making a mockery of them. He has an entire cutscene in DMC 4
where he acts like he's on the stage of a theatre with how grandious he is. People liked Dante for this reason, he was a breath of fresh air in a time when most protagonists were stotic, gritty jerks who only talked in curse words and gravelly shouts. And his flowing white hair was also certainly iconic. So here comes the new take on Dante, the West giving him a go and oh... hoo boy.
There's no charisma, there's no panache. The trailer has no gameplay. Dante doesn't look like a trash talker, he looks like a meth addict. He's smoking, something the DMC 1 design documents said Dante would never do as (per Kamiya) smoking is uncool. His hair isn't even white!
Now let me be clear: I am not opposed to a new take on Dante. Certainly, the idea presented in the reveal trailer that Dante is imaging the demons he fights as an acute case of psychosis is an interesting idea, as it raises the question of whether or not the demons are real or if he's senselessly killing random people. But the execution would have had to be perfect, and opening with just a fancy trailer that had no signs of gameplay for an action
franchise was not the right foot to start on.
What doesn't help was that the entire Western Capcom initiative was one pushed by a very controversial figure in gaming called Keiji Inafune,
who would leave Capcom right after DmC's announcement in 2010. Inafune was the one most strongly advocating for the western development approach (Something Capcom were quick to stress in 2010 after his departure)
, but with his departure the movement had less steam. Inafune would go on to make Mighty Number 9, a Kickstarter that went miserably wrong on every turn and is usually seen as one of the most disappointing games of the 2010s.
I should also point out here: Dante's radically different design
from the norm of the series was a mandate imposed by Capcom. Ninja Theory's original concept art for Dante was much more closer to his traditional design-
white hair, red coat and all. But Capcom, and Itsuno especially, were adament that if Ninja Theory were going to be doing something new with the franchise, that they needed to go off the cuff- in Capcom's own words, "Go crazy."
So Dante got a new color palette, a darker jacket and black hair. But at the time (this news only came out two years after the redesign was revealed), people didn't know about Capcom explicitly telling NT to go off the rails, and what they saw... was Ninja Theory going off the rails in the wrong
So from the word go, fans aren't happy. Fans are usually never happy but I mean they were unhappy.
Chief Creative director for Ninja Theory Tameen Antionades said after the reveal: “The vitriol was immediate, aggressive and relentless for the next two years. Without a second of gameplay being shown, it had been written off as a disaster in the making.”
Tameen would become the ball and chain around DmC's marketing, which is quite apparent in how Ninja Theory would dial back on his appearances as we get closer to the game's release. The backlash to the launch clearly surprised Ninja Theory and caught them off guard, with Tameen publically lashing out at the original fanbase for writing the game off or being unhappy at Dante's visual redesign. This would go on to dominiate the discussions about DmC for its pre-release cycle, as it became less about the game and more about the community and whether or not the response was justified (alongside in typical internet fashion, a few death threats being tossed around which apparently included a full metal song)
. No matter which side of it you lean on though, Tameen had habit of putting his foot in his mouth in regards to PR:
- When asked by Venturebeat how he felt about the fan reaction to the TGS trailer, Tameen (and I am quoting them word for word here) “took a drag of his cigarette and without blinking or pausing to exhale the smoke from his mouth, said: ‘I don’t care.’”
- Tameen went on to insult Dante's original costume in a later interview when saying that what was and wasn’t cool had changed in the years since DMC1: “If Dante, dressed as he was, walked into any bar outside of Tokyo, he’d get laughed out.”
- Finally, he disparaged the original series for its depiction of women, particularly the demon hunters Trish and Lady, saying: "I've nothing against big tits - I'd rather have my head resting on a pair right now - but if you're going to try and stimulate someone on different levels, there's better ways to do it... We did that in Enslaved with Trip. People loved her, not because she had big breasts and high heels, but because she felt like someone who could be your girlfriend. That to me is more attractive than a prostitute walking around with a big gun." The idea that Tameen was dismissing Lady and Trish (Lady especially has basically the largest character arc in DMC3 and it's as much her story as Dante's) irked the fanbase.
Capcom likely stepped in behind the scenes and encourged a few changes. Notably, Dante's design underwent a few shifts, including making him more muscular and rewriting portions of the game to give him a few more of Old!Dante's trademark quips. A few voice actor was also cast, named Tim Phillips... though NT wouldn't budge on the haircut as it was part of the story. The Dante psychosis/prisoner angle from the TGS trailer was also completely scrapped from the final product, having Dante instead be confirmed to be sane and fighting demons, not people. Even though Capcom had encouraged NT to go off the rails... money still reigns supreme and Capcom wanted to turn a profit. So closer to release, Capcom made a point of stressing that Itsuno and several other DMC veteran staff were supervising the combat system and offering guidance. Combat designer Rahni Tucker spoke positively of the exchanges she had with Itsuno:
While Capcom Japan kept a close eye on Ninja Theory’s work on DmC’s characters, story and world, its greatest focus was, naturally, on the game’s combat. Itsuno and other key personnel would visit the studio in Cambridge every few months to check in on its progress, Ninja Theory staff would often make the trip out to Japan, and in between those times there would be regular video conferences and daily email updates. All that communication helped to unify the two companies, despite a fundamental split between their approaches to game development: Ninja Theory liked to start with the visual design, and Capcom with the mechanics. Modestly, Itsuno admits he learned a lot from the collaboration; Tucker believes she picked up an awful lot more. “I learnt so much,” she says. “Itsuno would speak philosophically about how he approaches combat and enemy design. They build most of the player’s set of actions first, and then think about the things they can build to allow players to exploit particular elements of the system they’ve designed. They really put the emphasis of the baddie design back onto the player’s actions. It’s kind of obvious, but just the way that he spoke about it was inspiring, and it made a lot of sense to me.”
The damage however, was long done. Even with the post-TGS revisions, DmC was facing an uphill battle from the community, with a minority waiting to give it a try themselves before casting judgement, but the majority either being apathetic or downright hostile to the game, not helped by Tameen's attitude creating the idea that Ninja Theory inherently hated what made Devil May Cry good (again, keep in mind most players wouldn't learn that Capcom were pushing for the radical Dante changes until years post-release). Ultimately though, Capcom themselves are to blame for the choices that impacted DmC: Ninja Theory were only doing their jobs to the best of their abilities and for the most part many of the staff clearly loved getting to work on such a popular franchise and boosting their studio's name. It came down an unfortunate blend of Capcom misreading what people wanted from future projects, an attempt to appeal to a Western market that fell on its face, and a director unprepared for the mass backlash his product got.
Either way, the game finally came out in early 2013.
The game itself
Eh, it was OK.
DmC launched in March 2013 and got decent reviews on all platforms, getting a consistent 8/10 on all platforms on Metacritic. The PC port was especially praised for its sheer variety of features including an uncapped framerate. Critics quite liked it, praising the story and art direction, feeling it was a necessary step for the series to make the games somewhat easier to let newcomers in without facing as daunting a challenge as the games could be (I'm pretty sure learning how to fly a plane is easier than mastering Dante in Devil May Cry 4). Old Dante's most famous voice actor, Reuben Langdon, spoke on a podcast about the game and admitted that while he wasn't fond of the new Dante's characterisation, he applauded Ninja Theory's craftsmenship.
The fanbase were colder, even with the pre-release biases set aside (this wasn't helped by Platinum, helmed by several ex-DMC 1 developers including Kamiya, releasing Metal Gear Rising Revengeance also in 2013. Metal Gear Rising is a very good game that involves flipping giant robots
and fighting a very actractive Brazillian man with a gun-sheath sword
). The game's framerate on consoles was capped at 30FPS for technical reasons when all prior games ran at 60FPS. Dante had lost a lot of his mechanical complexity (including DMC 3 and 4's style system which offered Dante special abilities he could switch between such as more sword and gun combos, blocking and dodging) in favour of a more universal moveset. The Devil Trigger super mode was pretty lame and automatically knocked all enemies into the air, which people didn't like as it made most encounters too easy. Building up style was too easy and the game had no systems to stop you spamming the same combos over and over. The game's weapon system of angel/demon themed weapons included color-coded enemies that forced you to use the right gear or you'd be punished. There was no Turbo Mode, a feature in most games that automatically boosted the game's speed by 20% on average.
Ninja Theory still made a good action game, albeit one that needed a bit more refinement to reach its true potential. But the lack of several core features (or worse, poorly implemented iterations of said features) led to the fanbase adopting a term:
"It's a good game, but it's not a good Devil May Cry."
The fanbase were willing to concede to the good aspects of the game- especially in audiovisual aspects. Enemies now got a subtitle during their first appearance, weapons getting a slight glint when the player pauses to let them know they can launch a pause combo attack, the soundtrack was now dynamic and evolved up the higher your style rank got, alongside the killing blow at the end of a fight getting a cinematic camera angle. Ninja Theory's sense of style itself was something that impressed the Capcom team, as all of these aspects were modified and adopted into the mainline games come 2019. The game was also very beautiful in places, leaving the Gothic archetecture of the main games for a more European feel in Limbo City. Madrid in Spain and Genoa in Italy are clear influences on the archetecture, and the design team adapt them well in making Limbo a city that is itself a weapon trying to kill Dante through compressing alleyways, closing off paths or mocking him through writing on the walls, Splinter Cell Conviction style. Combichrist and Noisia's collaberations for the soundtrack were also praised between their licensed work and new music composed just for the game, especially the songs Never Surrender
and Throat Full of Glass.
But for all the praise, reluctant or otherwise, that game got mechanically, the story that the critics had acclaimed as mature and a right step forward had few supporters among the playerbase. There's been a lot written and said about DmC's story so I'll cap off the highlights here:
- Dante, even after the TGS revisions, was still far too crass and unlikeable. A scene early on in the game was also seen as a potshot at fans of the old games as a response to the TGS backlash where a mop falls on Dante's head, making him look like his older self, before he snarks "Not in a million years" and throws the mop aside. Fans quickly took to several creative nicknames to refer to this new iteration of the character, with the most popular being DINO (Dante In Name Only) or Donte. Fans hated Donte's personality so much that they began unironically championing the Spanish dub of the game due to his dub actor having more fun in the role, leading to people making mods to highlight the misadventures of Donté, el exterminador de demonios. Dante being changed from a half-human half-demon to half-angel half-demon also led to mocking jokes comparing Dante to the Adam Sandler film Little Nicky.
- The game relied far too heavily on swearing, with the exchange between Dante and Succubus becoming infamous for the lines "Fuck you!" "Fuck you!" "FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUU." A scene with Dante and Vergil where the two engage in brotherly banter only for Vergil to end the argument with "And I've got a bigger dick" also went viral for all the wrong reasons.
- Dante's brother Vergil in the core series is a man of MOTIVATION who would sooner cut his throat than admit to anything being stronger than him, alongside someone who hates firearms. Entire essays have been written about how amazing Vergil is in Devil May Cry 3 and in some communities, his name has become synonymous with the rival archetype. Here, he's presented as a thinly veiled analogue to the Anonymous movement (you can carbon date this game to early 2010s in general with the Anonymous analouges and WAKE UP SHEEPLE energy), openly admits to Dante that "I'm powerless to stop you" from just leaving his goal to stop the demons, and in the most infamous scene of the game, uses a sniper rifle to shoot a pregnant woman in the chest, blowing out her entire stomach, before headshotting her. To make things even worse for the reputation of this version of Vergil (who had been mockingly named Vergin), the launch version of DmC had him wearing a fedora. In 2013. I don't think I need to add anything to that if you remember what became of the fedora around 2013.
- Despite Tameen's comments about women in video games and "prostitutes with guns," DmC was reviled for how deeply mysoginistic the game truly was. Kat (the one heroic female character in the game and the only female character to survive the game), had several far more revealing costumes planned in concept art (Alongside the idea that Kat fought with a violin weapon pre-Lindsay Sterling which was pretty cool). Here's one of the better pieces of art where Kat was planned to be a biker chick with platinum blonde hair. Kat is ultimately a vehicle for Dante's character development as he softens up around her, only for her to be kidnapped and brutalized by the police. Dante and Vergil then kidnap the mistress of Mundus (the main antagonist) who is pregnant with his child, and trade the two women off like Pokemon cards (the camera in the trade scene, linked above in the Vergin section), leading back to the Sniper Rifle Abortion. The fanbase got very creative with memes relating to that part of the game. Kat's main involvement in the final act of the game is just to give Dante a map of the building she was tortured in, then hide behind a dumpster when Dante and Vergil come to blows over whether or not they should rule humanity. And in the re-release of the game, the final cutscene is modfied so the last shot of the game is Dante copping a feel of Kat's ass.
The end was an OK game let down by a bad story. The tale of many a game. And unfortunately, partly thanks to the game just not being good enough for the DMC pedigree, DmC underperformed. Capcom initally hoped for 2 million units to be sold like DMC 4, but later quietly lowered their projections down to 1.2 million. Some rumors speculate
that Capcom had to artifically boost the game's sale numbers by counting anyone who downloaded the game when it was for free as part of Playstation Plus in January 2014 (games that go on PS+ or Microsofft's Xbox Live Games with Gold service are usually games that are either selling so well they can take the hit, are past their lifespan and looking to reignite the playerbase, or did very badly and this is a last ditch effort to get interest into the game). While not speaking directly about DmC, Capcom spoke frankly in a financial report regarding their Western outsourcing, attributing the lack of success to a "delayed response to the expanding digital contents market," "insufficient coordination between the marketing and the game development divisions in overseas markets," and a "decline in quality due to excessive outsourcing"
. The long and the short of it was: DmC flopped commerically, failing to meet the sales of DMC 4 in the West (which remember was Capcom's entire reason for the reboot)
when it was released on the exact same platforms, and the consoles had a larger install base due to five years having passed. For what it's worth, Itsuno himself support the game and approved of Ninja Theory's efforts, even saying he'd have been honored to work on a DmC Devil May Cry 2 had Capcom gone with that project.
Some post-launch support would follow, including DLC costumes based on concept art for Dante and several alt skins based on his DMC 1 and 3 appearances, Bloody Palace (basically a time trial gauntlet run) and a campaign focusing on Vergil that sets up a sequel hook which never gets followed up on.
Some Ninja Theory staffers didn't take the news well, especially as they knew that their reputation was going to take a large hit after DmC. Art director Alessandro Taini gave a GDC talk
where he went on a weird rant involving editing DMC 4 Dante into stills from... Brokeback Mountain and Batman and Robin, while also saying reboot Dante was based on... Tyler Durden from Fight Club (for those who don't know Fight Club, you're not meant to agree with Tyler or find him a role model)
. Keep in mind that this is Taini basically shit-talking character designs he had no hand in making. In a hilaripus twist of irony, Dante would later in the series get a cowboy hat
as a weapon. Revenge is a dish best served cold.
Capcom up to this point had been going back and forth on what DmC even was- was it a prequel, a reboot, an alternate universe? They seemed to change the answer every month. But after the game's failure to meet expectations commercially, they quietly settled on it being based on an alternate universe, as was confirmed in of all things, Donte appearing as a DLC alt skin for Dante in Marvel vs Capcom Infinite.
(While I'm on the topic of weird fighting game trivia, Donte actually also got a full fighting game appearance in the "classic," Playstation All Stars Battle Royale as an attempt to market DmC ahead of its release. Yes, Donte technically didn't even debut in his own game. This story is so weird to me! In the trailer he even fights the protagonist of previous Ninja Theory game Heavenly Sword)
In 2015, Capcom re-released the game for the new consoles as DmC: Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition.
This was largely helmed by the Capcom team in Japan who modified the game to make it more in line with DMC's series standards of gameplay. And you know what? It's really good! Genuinely, it actually makes the game and takes it from "A good attempt" to "one of the best Western attempts at action games period." 60FPS on consoles, all DLC included, Turbo Mode was back, a new mode called Must Style where you have to get an S Rank in combos before your attacks do damage, all alongside an insanely detailed changelog penned by Rahni Tucker.
The one downside? It never got released on PC for unsaid reasons, presumably that most of the new gameplay additions... were based on mods made by the PC fanbase. Mods you can no longer find as the site storing them has gone down.
However even with this, DmC would get sand in its eye one more time. In the same year, Capcom released a similar re-release of DMC 4 called Special Edition. It was far more bare bones than DmC: DE, only adding three new playable characters in Lady, Trish and MOTIVATION Man himself, Vergil. Despite the game only getting a physical release in Japan and being digital only here in the West (whereas DmC: DE got a full release), Capcom eventually said that DMC 4 SE obliterated
the DE in sales, with Capcom specifically saying that 4SE's digital sales led to a better quarter in 2015 than they were anticipating.
As of 2020 (due to Capcom counting their re-releases of games separately than the original release when it comes to sales), we know that DMC4SE has sold 1.5 million units,
while DmC: DE sold 1.1 million.
However, ultimately, I'm very joyful to admit that everyone got a happy ending!
No, literally, everyone came out of this for the better. Ninja Theory in 2017 would release Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice,
a critical and commerical darling made on a self-styled "AA" budget that was praised for its handling of mental health through the lens of its MC Senua. It made its budget back easily, they're now owned by Microsoft and they're currently working on a sequel called Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2. Capcom would bounce back from their slump in the Early 2010s, beginning in 2017 with the releases of Resident Evil 7, Monster Hunter World and a certain title I'll mention in a minute. They've been releasing hit after hit for the last four years and they have more on the horizon. And Itsuno, now having made Dragon's Dogma, came back raring to go with more Devil May Cry. Though there are some rumors by Dante's voice actor that he had to threaten to leave Capcom to get it, at E3 2018 as part of the Microsoft panel, Itsuno took to the stage and announced: "DMC IS BACK!!!"
(Watching people react to this trailer and freaking out when they see it's DMC gives me so much serotonin)
Thanks for reading this... long disaster of a post. Have a good one, and remember to keep this party crazy. Let's rock. :)

2020.09.26 15:38 ZandrickEllison Offseason Blueprint: The Toronto Raptors already had their fairy tale ending, but now they'd like a sequel
The playoffs continue to rage on, but there are 26 teams sitting at home with nothing to do but twiddle their thumbs, watch the Conference Finals, and wait for next season to start.
For their sake, we wanted to look ahead with the next edition of the OFFSEASON BLUEPRINT
series. In each, we'll preview some big decisions and make some recommendations for plans of attack along the way. Today, we're looking at the Toronto Raptors step one: Wish Upon a Star...
When the Toronto Raptors and Vancouver Grizzlies came into the league (in 1995), expectations weren't terribly high. They felt like filler teams, made for Michael Jordan to break records against. Maybe they'd have a playoff appearance here and there, but there's way that they'd ever be an elite contender. There was no way that some random ass team from Canada would rise to the top of the league. Sadly, Vancouver has fallen off the map (for now), but Toronto has exploded as one of the best stories and best franchises in the association.
This fairy tale didn't happen overnight. The Raptors had some nice moments and nice young stars in the past -- Damon Stoudamire, Vince Carter, Chris Bosh -- but they won a grand total of 1 playoff series over their first 20 seasons in the NBA. Given that, their latest stretch has been remarkable. They've won 48 games for seven seasons in a row, including 50+ in each of the last five. They won with Kawhi Leonard, but they managed to survive and stay relevant without him as well. Making the playoffs has become part of their DNA. Masai Ujiri, Nick Nurse, and Kyle Lowry have earned a lot of attention and credit for that (rightfully so), but we also have to give credit to Coach Dwane Casey and DeMar DeRozan for helping to get the ball rolling in the first place.
Wisely, the Raptors locked up Nick Nurse to a contract extension this offseason. The next step should be doing the same with Ujiri. The fact that high-profile teams and big markets like the New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, L.A. Lakers, and L.A. Clippers all have power brokers in place should be seen as a positive there. There aren't many franchises that in a position to throw $10M+ his way. Still, there's no reason the team should let their magic genie Ujiri go. In a league where role players get $10-15M a year, top executives deserve to get obscenely rich as well. Losing Ujiri would sting badly -- not only for basketball reasons, but also for reputation reasons. The Raptors have had all their wishes come true so far; they can't start pinching pennies now just because it's expensive to varnish a magic lamp.
step two: convince FVV that there is nothing more than this provincial life
It's the dream of every college basketball player to earn the attention and affection of NBA scouts. At Wichita State, Fred VanVleet did his part to turn their eye. He started 100+ games, and helped lead the Shockers to a combined record of 121-24 across four seasons on campus. When he finally strolled into the NBA ballroom... he received nothing but crickets. Eyerolls. Murmurs about his unappealing body. He didn't get drafted at all.
Now, four seasons and one championship later, the league suitors are singing a different tune. It's going to be a weak free agent class, and FVV is one of the Belles of the ball. There's talk that he can generate $15M, $18M, $20M! in salary per season. Heck, I've even heard some talk like 4 years, $100M (that's $25M per year, if you're no bookworm like Belle.)
Ironically, it's some of the same qualities that made NBA scouts dismiss him that make FVV an appealing target now. He's shorter and stubbier, but that strength allows him to play and defend both PG and SG. In fact, basketball-reference charted him as playing 56% of his minutes at SG this season. VanVleet's shooting prowess (39.3% from three for his career) also fits like a glove in the modern NBA. He can be a lead guard, or he can be a complementary 3+D spacing guard... he can do a variety of things to win a team win. As such, he's a "high floor" and "high character" acquisition that can justify an inflated salary, a la Malcolm Brogdon last year (who got 4 years, $85M total from Indiana.)
VanVleet would be a valuable addition to any team, but he's especially valuable to this particular Toronto team. He's already shown that he can play alongside Kyle Lowry, but he may have an even larger role in the future. Lowry's massive contract ($30M per year) is coming off the books after next year. As good as Lowry has been, he's 34 now, and he's not going to be a viable starter forever. VanVleet can continue to play in tandem with Lowry now, and then potentially take the reins of the lead guard position for the next 5 years after. Through that lens, $20M doesn't sound unreasonable at all. I also like the idea of retaining some members of the title team as long as possible, as it adds prestige to the franchise.
No doubt, the Raps will want VanVleet back, even if he's paid $20M per season. He may be worth that. The question is: what happens if he gets offered more than he's worth? What if the Knicks get crazy and offer him $25M or more?
Toronto can't get into an unreasonable bidding war, but they can evoke VanVleet's emotional connection to the franchise and fan base. They helped give him the development and opportunity to become a star. And while Toronto isn't a traditional "big market" compared to New York City, it may be more appealing. Toronto’s a thriving city, where $20 (or $20M) goes a lot further than NYC. Moreover, VanVleet will be a beloved member of the Raptors' franchise and their legacy. If he goes off to be a hired gun somewhere else, those new fans may turn on him as soon as his shooting slumps. If Toronto is effectively "The Beast" (that you learned to love), the Knicks may be "Gaston," the showy rival that you'll only end up resenting. I truly believe that VanVleet is better off in Toronto (even at 80-90% of the price) than going to a franchise like the Knicks. Of course, it's not my decision to make.
step three: Jack and the (singular) Beanstalk
Presuming that Toronto is able to come up with a new accord with Fred VanVleet, they'll have limited coins left in the purse. They may need to make a decision regarding their bigs, with both Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka entering free agency as well. These are two decorated veterans who have gotten used to gold (this season, Gasol made $25.5M and Ibaka made $23M.)
While the Raptors' frontcourt depth helped them win a title, it doesn't make sense to double dip and OVERLOAD on the position. The modern NBA doesn't cater to centers, so you don't want to tilt your salary cap too much in that direction. Moreover, backup Chris Boucher (also a free agent) deserves some more playing time. It's very realistic for the team to pick one of their current bigs, and roll with Boucher as a backup.
Between the two bigs, I'd lean to retaining Serge Ibaka over Marc Gasol myself. As always, Gasol's raw stats -- 7.5 points and 6.3 rebounds -- don't reflect his actual value. He's a good, heady basketball player who is able to stretch the court offensively. Even at age 35, he's still a good defensive presence. In fact, ESPN's RPM metric graded him as a +3.4 impact per 100 possessions on defense, 5th best among all centers. Still, it's hard to ignore the age factor. Gasol's 35 now, and turning 36 in January. Based on either the eye test or analytics, you can see some decline in his play. Retaining him on a 1-year deal would make sense, but anything more than that would be risky.
Meanwhile, Serge Ibaka is no spring chicken himself. He's listed at 31 (and some think he may be older than that.) Still, he doesn't appear to be in as noticeable of a decline. He still has some spring to his legs, which aids him as a rim protector and also helps him convert inside on offense. He actually outpaced Gasol this year in terms of true shooting percentage 58% to 55%. Overall, Gasol vs. Ibaka is fairly even right now, but we'd have to lean in favor of the younger player as we project to the future. All things (and contracts) being equal, I'd re-sign Serge Ibaka. If Gasol wants to undercut Ibaka and come in for a cheaper deal, then that's a legitimate option as well. Center is less of a priority for all teams right now, and the Raps shouldn't overpay for competent play down low.
step four: dream of a date with Prince Charming, but settle for Prince Charming-Enough
The Toronto Raptors and their fans have their eyes on the prize: Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Greek Freak may hit free agency in 2021, at which point the Raptors could be a legitimate contender for his services.
Realistically, it's hard to imagine the team clearing enough space to sign Antetokounmpo outright. They'd have the room if they didn't re-sign Fred VanVleet or Serge Ibaka to long-term deals, but if they did that, why would Antetokounmpo want to come play for them? He's not leaving Milwaukee unless he signs up with a superior roster.
More likely, Toronto would need to work out some sign and trade centered on Pascal Siakam (and his $30M salary.) If the Raptors had the chance to grab Antetokounmpo, they wouldn't mind waving their diamond in the rough Siakam goodbye. There's some duplication to their talents and skill sets, only Antetokounmpo is a much better version of it. He's also about a year younger. With a Siakam to Antetokounmpo upgrade, the Raps would be right back in the title picture again.
While this whole entry has been about fairy tales, let's take a step back and presume that doesn't happen. What then...?
The first step would be trying to put Siakam in better situations to score. He had been incredibly efficient as a secondary option behind Kawhi Leonard, crashing in the paint and shooting 60.2% from two-point range. This past season, as the go-to scorer, he found those shots harder to come by and saw his two-point percentage plummet down to 49.9%. As a result, his true shooting numbers crashed from 62.8% to 55.4%. Some of that is injury related, but a lot of it is shot distribution and defensive attention. Simply put, Siakam had to work a lot harder to get his points. The prior season, 49% of his twos and 98% of his threes were assisted. This year, those numbers dropped to 42% and 66% respectively. He also took longer threes. In 2018-19, 68% of his three pointers came in the corner. This year, that dropped to 22%. (All numbers courtesy of basketball-reference.)
Overall, the Raptors may need to rethink their usage of Siakam and have him take a step back as a lead option. While the team was still successful overall, their offense wasn't any great shakes, ranking 14th overall. That has to improve if they want to win the East again. One way to potentially do that is to redistribute the scoring wealth. Rather than treating Siakam as a top option, treat him as an option. He's a solid scorer and ball mover -- like most of his teammates -- so let's get them all involved equally. The Raptors goal should be to have their top 6 players (Siakam, Lowry, FVV, O.G. Anunoby, Ibaka/Gasol, and Norman Powell) all average around 15 points per game. They can also get more from rising players like Chris Boucher, Terence Davis, and Matt Thomas (a better marksman than Snow White's Huntsman). With balanced scoring like that from all over the roster, they may be able to get their offense back into the top 10. Better still, they may spin a whole new fairy tale for the Canadian kids to enjoy.

Rise of Hellion ch5: Norcal (Barry Pepper fanart fiction inspiration)
I was pregnant, that much was certain. (The influx of hormones explained a few moments that I'd rather forget.) It all started when Anya and I hitched a ride to Seattle with a van full of stoners, heading to a music festival. My metal legs were in decent, usable shape although the straps had seen better days. I was struggling to keep up with Anya’s able-bodied, human legs, but I was grateful to have her as my friend.
She walked with a sweet, sensual confidence; something that made people want to trust her, to know her. Along the way, we got free cigarettes, food and even money. We met the sexy college-age stoners (three men and two women) in a truck stop in Oregon. I never even had to talk.
I was offered copious amounts of pills, cheap vodka and weed. I tried to take just enough to relax and sleep my way to Washington. But through it all, I started to remember more and more details of my encounter with Noah. Piece by piece, each moment came back to me in the form of the Flower Child (my neon glowing guardian angel) leading me through a series of rusty metal doors. Each door led me to a different part of that night’s conversation. Apparently, I had told Noah about my past sexual abuse, running away from home, and getting my legs blown off: total cringe. "I feel like I was put on this earth to serve powerful men," said the drunk, past version of me. "Powerful men?" Noah said with a chuckle. "Like congressmen and shit? Good thing there are no powerful men here, just a bunch of screw ups and good-old-boys." Noah put his arm around me, holding me close. "And you, our newest teammate." "Really?" "You were great out there," he said taking another drag off the cigarette. "A real assassin." I cupped his face, with the biggest smile. "What would you say if I kissed you?" Before Noah could reply I brushed my mouth to his. "Sorry." I was giggling uncontrollably. Noah smiled sweetly, placing a finger to my cheek. "Do I make you nervous?” I bit my lip, lost in his eyes. “I feel like a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs."
A jolt of pain blinked me back to reality as my head smashed into the roof of the van. We were flying, falling, eventually crashing. I was already in the back, comfortably wrapped in a blanket, so I was able to punch my way out of the back window. Looking around I could see the van had fallen down a steep cliff, landing on a beach. "Anya!" I shouted, hoping to God she was alive.
I struggled to my feet which was difficult to do with my left leg falling off. Suddenly, two arms grabbed me, pulling me backward towards the water. I tried to scream, but was too injured to fight back, especially when my captor started to pick up speed. This was a human, flesh and blood but he was moving as fast as a car.
So, I just buried my face against the abductor's chest to protect myself from the g-force. We landed on a wooden surface with a thud. I expected to hit my head, but the man carried me like a bride, placing me down carefully on a hospital bed. When I caught my breath, I sat up just enough to look around; somehow, we were on a boat. "Did you just walk on water?" I asked with a forced chuckle.
"Just one of my many superpowers," replied a familiar voice.
"Tony!" I shouted. My body filled with energy, I sprang up, throwing my arms around him.
"I miss you too, kid." Tony returned the embrace, looking over my shoulder. "Yo, Axel."
"Axel's here?" I heard his footsteps before I heard his voice.
"Is the target secure?"
"Affirmative," Tony replied.
"The target?" I asked, suddenly feeling less homesick for my TAC friends.
"Just a formality," Axel said as he patted my arm. "We're glad to have you back."
"Me or just my bionic legs?" Both were still attached but holding on by a thread.
"You would be technically correct," Axel said with a friendly smile. "Your legs are lo-jacked. I'm surprised the Lifers let you keep them." Our fearless leader went to the front of the boat, steering us in the direction of a very noticeable helicopter. "We tracked you to the artic base, that was why we sent the unit in after the battery.”
"Um, what?" I felt like I'd been stabbed in the heart. I was the reason why Noah was in trouble, and possibly dead.
"TAC wanted it's property back, but we wanted you back.”
"Who's we?" The people who love me? Was that what Axel was going to say?
"I for one, and certainly Tony." Axel made it to the pickup point, signaling for the chopper to lower the ropes to attach to my bed.
"Yes, sir," Tony said, taking a seat on my hospital bed. together we were raised up to the cargo hold. Upon reaching the landing pad, the door shut.
I could see where a single pilot was controlling every aspect of the process. The roar of the engine was so loud, speech was impossible, as I found out the hard way. "Where are we going?" I shouted as loud as I could.
"What?" Tony replied.
My throat was already sore, and I didn’t feel like repeating myself. Instead, I simply rested my body while blinking tears from my eyes.
Tony took it upon himself to hold me close, rocking me in his arms like a frightened child. "We're headed to Vancouver, you'll love it there, I promise. I'll be with you every step of the way."
I sobbed, burying my face in Tony's shoulder. Grateful that I somehow heard his words of kindness over the roar of the wind.
He held my hand, giving my fingers a squeeze. I could imagine he was thinking about all the horrible things Anya and Baron had done, how I must be crying out of fear or even pain. He would never in a million years, guess why my heart was broken.
Tony's breath was trembling. Was he cold? Or did he truly care? The very idea seemed so sweet. And that was why I kissed him.
Tony closed his eyes and smiled. Maybe he silently mouthed my name, I wasn’t sure, but I’d like to think so. I placed my hand to his chest. He was wearing body armor, so moved my hand lower, to his belt. I knew the pilot could see us, possibly even heard us, but I didn’t care.
Tony could have stopped me but he didn’t. I’d had sex with beautiful boys like Tony before. He was so open and gentle, possibly a virgin. The idea made me want him even more; I wanted to be the one to make the robot-superhero-boy into a real man.
We held on to each other even after landing in Canada. "I'll give you two a moment," the pilot shouted from his seat. There was other stuff to unload from the back, giving us time to make ourselves presentable.
"Was I your first,” I asked with all the flirty seduction of a teen prostitute who watched too many Disney movies.
Tony laughed awkwardly as he helped me off the cargo ramp. “I still can’t believe that just happened.”
“Yeah,” I muttered. I was a slut; I was a whore, but at least I was the one in control. “I just needed to feel something.”
“Love?” Was he being sarcastic? I couldn’t tell. Yet in that moment he sounded human.
“Sometimes I feel like I don’t know what love is.” Looking into Tony’s dark eyes, I knew my plan; I would learn to love Tony, I would give Dr. Toki the super soldier baby that she wanted.
Which brings me to today.
It had been a little over a week of working out, eating great food and spending time on the beach. I had been feeling a little sick, so I was given a pregnancy test in the form of a urine strip. It was the kind that was supposed to show either one or two lines. It showed nothing, as if I had no female hormones at all. (Apparently that was not uncommon for females who survived trauma.) I was told to return to training; weights, cardio etc. The Vancouver TAC base was a nice enough facility but there was no outdoor gym, not even a track. I would work out with Tony, competitively trying to stay on the treadmill longer (I'd given up on trying to out lift him.)
During our downtime, we were watching cartoons while drinking weird Gatorade mixtures, when suddenly the local news reported a breaking story. “What the hell?” I groaned. “What could be so important that they had to interrupt syndicated reruns of Bob’s Burgers?” “A team of heavily armored individuals have been attacking parked vehicles in the downtown area.”
The camera zoomed in on a masked man wearing Noah’s armor. Was this Noah, was he alive?
I gripped my chest, sinking my nails in to my skin. Was I high? Was I dreaming? I could feel my heart pounding right before I fell forward.
Tony rushed to my side, and stayed with me even as I started vomiting. I went limp in his arms as he carried me to the medical ward.
That was when I was given a blood test, followed by an ultrasound. I was unquestionably pregnant. I closed my eyes and tried to sleep but no sleep came. The last thing I remember was holding Tony's hand.
"Does Tony have access to the third floor of the sub level?" the voice came from everywhere and nowhere.
“What?” The words made no sense given the vast number of buildings on the base. There could even be a sub-terrain lower level I didn’t even know about.
“Never mind,” the echo said with a groan.
I awoke gasping for air. I was no longer in a bed but rather on a rooftop in the pouring rain. I wanted to pull my legs close, in to a fetal position. If only to stay warm, but my prosthetics were gone. “Fuck my life.”
In the distance I could see a human figure; a man walking a large animal, like a lion or a bear. "Noah?" I said in a whisper. What was he? Did he take me from the clinic? Was he going to kill me?
The human figure let go of the animal, before taking a few steps back. The animal made a deep, sickly, inhuman sound but did not advance further. The human groaned, still standing out of view. He moved his hand, striking the creature in the back. The sound was sickening as metal tore through skin.
"Noah, please stop!" I crawled to the injured creature. Clearly it didn’t want to hurt me or anyone. I reached out my hand, the way I would for a stray dog. But once I was close enough to see the creature’s face I screamed. “Oh, dear God.” Even through all the armor and mutilation, I could never forget his blue eyes. “Noah, what did they do to you?”
Noah had deep scars all over his body; arms, shoulders, and back. On his neck was a collar held on by two spikes; one in his throat and another in his spine. The wounds were fresh, he had been bleeding very badly. It was clear he wanted to speak but couldn’t.
“It’s ok, I’m here.” It wasn’t ok, nothing about this was ok. I reached for his hand, but Noah shook his head. There were large metal braces on his hands, strange black spikes that made him look like the Marvel comic character Venom (or a demon from hell.)
Since it was clear Noah had no intention of attacking me, I stayed where I was. But if the restrained beast was Noah, then who was the standing figure? It had to be the infamous Feng, sent on behalf of Kitsune after Anya and I went missing. That made sense. And now I was completely sure I was going to die.
Noah opened his mouth, struggling for breath, “You- will- prevail.” He coughed up blood, his body convulsing. “I’ll never forget you. I could never forget you.”
I wanted so badly to hold him. Maybe I could save him or at least die trying. “I love you…” my breath trailed off. I wanted to vomit or at least scream. What kind of person falls in love with someone they knew for a single night? This isn’t a fucking Disney movie! Yet here I was. I wanted to die.
Noah swallowed hard, causing his throat to spasm as he spoke, “I will die loving you.”
The words cut me to my core. I screamed into the rain, as the standing figure pulled on the leash, dragging Noah away. All that was left of that moment was a streak of blood along the concrete roof.
I rocked back and forth crying. ‘Who was that? Where were my legs?’
"Hard to tell who you can trust," a male voice said from behind me.
"What's stopping me from hurling myself off this roof?”
“I don’t really know,” the voice replied. “The story would continue; Noah, Anya, Baron, etc. It would just be the end for you.”
“Am I the battery? Is this some kind of DaVinci code shit?" I started to scoot backward if only to adjust my weight, and immediately fell off a ledge.
My guardian angel grabbed my arm. “Hey, be careful.” It was the Flower Child but he seemed older, stronger, with a face weathered by time. "Maybe later, after you get rid of the passenger in your womb."
"Are you saying I should get an abortion first?" I asked sarcastically, through tears.
Flower Child chuckled as he took a seat at my side. "You're welcome for saving your life, Miss Nicki.”
"What are you?" I violently jerked my arm away. "Are you even real? Or are you some kind of mash up of every guy I've ever fucked?"
My emotional outburst was met with laughter. "You mean I'm your dream date? Am I your Ken, Barbie girl?"
I shook my head. "You're imaginary. I'm just talking to myself."
"Do you remember the Junior nationals, when you won your first medal?"
"No,” I replied quickly. I remembered; I just didn’t want to continue the conversation with my imaginary friend.
Flower Child nodded and stood up. "The day you won that medal was the day you became something more than a scared little girl."
"Sure." And now my brain was forcing me to remember that day. I had qualified for the vault finals but for whatever reason my coach pulled me from the rotation. No, actually I knew perfectly well why. He wanted to punish me for hiding in the bathroom when getting dressed. He liked all the girls to change in the public hallway, where he could ‘supervise,’ because we were all so disobedient.
I knew that for a fact. I still got dressed and walked out with the rest of the finalists. Right away I was pulled from the rotation. My coach had told them I was unfit to compete, which was clearly a lie since I had no injuries. I told the advocates what was happening; what my coach had down to me ever since I was six. There were tears in my eyes and I knew for a fact my coach would make my life a living hell, but was allowed to vault.
Assuming I was not in the running for a medal, I tried a vault that I had only been allowed to do in practice; The Produnova. For those of you non-gymnasts, it's when you run up to the spring board, and do a mid-air summersault without landing on your head. The legendary Elena Produnova could do two maybe three summersaults before landing. I always thought she looked like a bullet or a cannon ball.
I can remember doing my run, flying higher than I had ever been, and then landing on my feet. Every muscle in my body wanted to fall over, but I held strong. I was going to stick my landing even if it killed me. The audience was silent, in shock, awe and horror. A junior level gymnast was never meant to land The Produnova. I was supposed to be dead, crippled but I wasn’t. I was a performer and I did that vault for myself. After taking point deductions for doing the wrong vault (technical shit,) I got third place. Not that I even got to keep my medal. No one spoke for me, but no one could ever take away what was rightfully mine. But what did I have now?
The Flower Child started to walk backward, into the shadows of the rain storm. “I’ll leave that choice up to you.”
I didn’t scream or cry. in all honesty I didn’t care. He wasn't real, he was just the part of me that needed a good kick in the ass. I needed to find my way off the roof, and I needed to be smart about it. I spent the next few minutes scooting on my hands and my butt, making every movement count (as to not accidently fall to my death.) Eventually I located what was clearly a door.
Balancing on my leg stumps, I could barely reach the door handle. I tightened my core muscles to execute a leap, pulling on the handle with all my strength. It was, of course, locked. At least I had a place to rest my back. I waited until the rain stopped, taking a moment to breathe. "I could really use a rescue from a handsome prince. Or maybe a chubby-cheeked plumber named Mario? Yeah, right."
I suddenly heard a thump on the opposite side of the door, as if something had dropped down (or teleported.) "Hello?" I said with a tap. "Anyone there?" Just as I spoke, the door opened, causing my exhausted body to fall backward into a dark hallway.
I was indoors, that was something. I took a moment to lean back, anticipating my next move. I really needed to find my prosthetic legs (or some kind of replacement) so I wouldn’t have to bruise the shit out of my arms and wrists. Until then I would have to deal with scooting around like a crippled puppy.
I made my way across the hall, down a set of stairs. I wanted to scream for help but there were no security guards or human life of any kind, not even any cameras. The first hallway was lit by a single halogen bulb with a metal door (possibly a fire escape) waiting for me at the end of a short path. I went through, only to find a stairwell with only a single set of stairs going down only a single floor. “What the?”
I made my way down, then across a different hallway. Door after door had been left open, in a very distinct path. Was I being led into a trap? There were no windows, only digital lights that seemed to mark rooms with unintelligible binary numbers.
After a while, I saw a few security cameras (the kind that look like glossy black balls, or eyes, attached to the wall.) Was I being watched? The idea sort of pissed me off. Was I an experiment, a rat in a maze? Before every open door I heard a thud. It was sometimes loud, sometimes soft. The variation lead me to believe it was organic. Someone was physically opening the doors for me; they had a plan, and endgame. And I was just a plastic piece on a checkerboard; only exploring as far as my overlord wanted me to go.
The final door unlocked a server room where dozens of towers were being housed at refrigerated temperatures. The jungle of cords seem to lead to a central point. In the center of the room was a red, open suitcase with wires coming from all angles. It seemed alive, kind of like a digital sea creature. In the middle of the case, where a clam would typically house its pearl, was a small glowing D-cell battery. "The battery?" This was what Kitsune was fighting for; what Noah died for?
Every single tower appeared to be powered from the suitcase. A sound theory until I started to look closer at the plastic cylinder, housing the ‘battery.’ It was freezing cold, except for the areas near ports. That meant I was wrong; the room full of servers were trying to unload the files from the small device (resulting in a massive outpour of energy.) “Wow,” I muttered. “This must be what a Yoda byte looks like.”
My comment caused laughter; a deep, male voice spoke up from just out of my line of sight. “You’re standing in the presence of project Neptune; aka The Battery, one of the modern wonders of the world.”
“The battery is a massive glorified flash drive?” I asked, taking a step back.
"Pretty much. The only person who could have deciphered its contents is long gone."
"Noah? He was guarding it, right? Why didn’t he ever try to open it?”
“I imagine it was for the same reason why you’re not trying to make a grab for it: the damn thing’s more trouble than it’s worth.”
“You didn’t lead me here?” I turned expecting to see the Flower Child. I don’t know why, maybe on some level the voice was similar. “Axel?”
The tall imposing man stood in full camo armor. He crossed his arms, looking at the battery with a sense of nostalgia. "Noah wanted to invent his own creations," Axel said with a sigh. "And, well between you and me, I think he already knew what was on it.”
"Hi,” I said in a squeaky voice. My mind was a mix of sadness, and fear, combined with the physical pain of having walked on my hands for the past few hours. “Am I in trouble?”
“No, but you were being tested.” He picked up his com-radio. “Target is secure, stand down.” He returned his focus to our conversation. “You were taken from the clinic under the veil of bad weather. We had no idea where your assailant had put your body, until you were spotted by the cameras. Clearly someone was tracking you; someone who knew the location of the battery.”
And whoever it was, hoped that a legless teenage girl would be allowed to escape the base with the high-value target. “So, how well did you know Noah or Cronos or whatever?”
“Noah Garrison was a military asset who went AWOL. It’s assumed he suffered a mental break.”
“But you don’t believe that.”
“I knew him before he disappeared,” Axel said with a nod. “He was a genius, a warrior, a friend.”
“I didn’t even know his last name.” I bit my lip, trying not to cry. “I’m just some stupid kid at the zoo who keeps falling head first in to the animal enclosures.” That sounded about right; some were helpful creatures while others seemed to want my blood.
“Had you made a play for the battery you would have had the full force of TAC on your ass, but as it stands, I am of the belief that you are being stalked by the international terrorist known as Faust.”
“Faust?” My entire body went limp. I was now crying uncontrollably and was moments away from vomiting the contents of my empty stomach.
“Lift your arms,” Axel said like a comforting parent. “Not to be disrespectful, but I want to get you reunited with your legs as soon as possible.”
I nodded and he lifted me like a crying toddler holding me close. With his free hand he pushed a button to open a previously unseen side door. Curious, I turned my head just enough to see the massive amount of armed guards.
Axel waved his arm, and the armored soldiers stepped to the side allowing him to pass. I had never felt so safe and so loved.

Additionally, the Company plans to sell American CBD’s hemp biomass to support operations in Europe and to other clients worldwide.
“The term sheet with American CBD is an important milestone for the Company because it increases the likelihood of expanded margins and will allow us to launch innovative new products for which we control every step of the process,” said Thoughtful Brands CEO Ryan Hoggan. “Once we’re able to work directly with the team at American CBD and within their state-of-the-art Kentucky facility, we expect to be able to fine-tune and advance our cannabinoid product portfolio.”
The Company proposes to acquire all of the issued and outstanding share capital of, or all of the assets of, American CBD in consideration for Cdn$11,000,000, which will be satisfied through the issuance of common shares of the Company (the “Consideration Shares”). The Consideration Shares will be issued to the existing shareholders of American CBD or, in the case of an asset acquisition, directly to American CBD, at a deemed price equivalent to the lesser of (a) Cdn$0.18 per share or (b) the five-day volume-weighted average closing price of the Company’s common shares on the Canadian Securities Exchange for the period preceding closing of the Proposed Acquisition. The Consideration Shares shall be paid upfront and subject to an escrow arrangement, from which 25% of the Consideration Shares will be released on the closing date of the Proposed Acquisition, followed by an additional 25% after each subsequent 90-day period.
In addition to the Consideration Shares, a bonus of Cdn$1,000,000 will be paid to the operating team of American CBD on closing and a Cdn$2,000,000 performance milestone payment will be paid to the operating team of American CBD upon the achievement of production and cumulative online sales of over USD$1,000,000. The bonus and milestone shares will be payable in common shares of the Company based on the five-day volume weighted average closing price of the Company’s shares on the Canadian Securities Exchange immediately prior to the bonus and milestone payments becoming payable.
Closing of the Proposed Acquisition is subject to American CBD: (a) having a minimum cash balance of Cdn$2,000,000, less closing costs related to the Proposed Acquisition (which are not exceed Cdn$40,000); (b) having no debts or liabilities; and (c) having been granted a seat on the Company’s board of directors, all on the closing of the Proposed Acquisition.
The Company is at arms-length from American CBD and its shareholders. The transaction will not constitute a fundamental change for the Company, nor is it expected to result in a change of control of the Company, within the meaning of applicable securities laws and the policies of the Canadian Securities Exchange.
Readers are cautioned that the final terms and structure for a transaction between the Company and American CBD have not yet been determined. Completion of any transaction remains subject to negotiation of definitive documentation and satisfaction of conditions set forth above, as well as customary closing conditions for a transaction of this nature. The Proposed Acquisition cannot be completed until these conditions are satisfied. The Company will provide additional information regarding the Proposed Acquisition as soon as it becomes available.

Top 3 answers get +3, +2. and +1 balls, bottom 3 answers get -3, -2, -1.
LETS GET STARTED
Question 1: Favorite Baseball Player and Why
Growing up every day with Chipper and Andruw Jones in the Braves lineup for the first like 15-20 years of my life was special, Chipper in particular. Acuna is catching up fast, though.
I asked for one player though, not your entire Barves lifestory
Jake Arrieta, his rise really mirrored the cubs, and that 2015 season was incredible.
Arrieta can pound a bag of dicks for being absolute shit
Barry Bonds. He was the greatest hitter of all-time and it isn't even up for discussion. He was a hall of famer before the "alleged" steroid use and became the greatest player of all-time after. The man would get one pitch in the strike zone to hit every night and he would hit it for a home run everytime. No batter has ever been feared the way Barry was feared, not even close. Everyone can say they hate Barry Bonds and don't respect him or whatever crap they want to spew out, but the truth is, when he came up to bat, literally everyone stopped what they were doing to see what he would do, and then when he'd hit a massive home run, everyone would be in awe of his insane abilities.
Barry Bonds is lowkey one of my favorite players, this is valid reasoning.
David Ortiz. Self-explanatory.
Fuck the Red Sox
Jason Kendall bc he was a leadoff catcher and gritty as hell. He refused to ever sit out a game even though he played such a demanding position.
Kendall was one of my favorite Pirates to watch, glad to see someone else is a big Kendall fan
matt kemp, restored my love of the game. in his prime he was incredible and he seemed to be having a blast playing. oh and i'm hyper vain and he dated rhianna while being the best player in the sport and i think that's cool as fuck.
Kemp should have won MVP over Braun. Fuck Ryan Braun
Frank Thomas? Frank Thomas is just a mythical figure of childhood for me. The 2006 A's were an extremely formative team for my baseball fandom and Frank Thomas was probably the first time a player I was already aware of outside of the A's became relevant to the A's, and having him play for Oakland felt like being blessed by a god. Objectively or statistically there are more dominant hitters than Frank Thomas in history but in my mind he's the most impeccable hitter of all time.
I forgot that Big Hurt was an A. Thomas was a fun player to watch
Rickey Henderson. Unbelievable talent with a rare skillset, combined with a cool "hometown hero" story, long career, endless mythology and great stories.
Yankees Legend Rickey Henderson
Vladimir Guerrero for teaching me that strike zones are merely suggestions
It's a shame his son took that lesson the opposite way
Mariano Rivera, just a great feeling when he would come into the game and lock it down. ice cold blood in the veins, and a great team player and ambassador for the game.
There will never be another as good as Mo when it comes to locking down a game

Question 2: Favorite High School Story
We used to pay "high stakes" Call of Duty at my friend tommy's basement. We played gun game on black ops. if you lost you got fingered in your butthole
that time in high school I went to Edinburgh to perform a musical for some Scots
Did you play the bag pipes?
9th grade a bunch of us gathered in the school library the first night of winter break and binged the lord of the rings movies. Extended editions, of course.
Thats a good way to spend a night
Four Loko Night, many shenanigans were gotten up to and the night culminated in ejecting flaming pumpkins off a bridge into a gorge
And this is how states burn to the ground
me and a couple guys got onto the very top roof of the palmer house hilton, managed to avoid a bunch of security. got good pictures
Sounds like a blast
probably driving to a city of 30k people in the middle of buttfuck nowhere, getting piss drunk and doing Too Much Molly for one person. we did all this shit and it's like 1:30, walk to a dominos and wait outside for our shit. all of a sudden this dude comes up to us and asks us if we were the ones that catcalled his gf (we were not) to which one of my buddies said "nah but i wish i would've." dude gets in his truck and chases us down streets of moose jaw saskatchewan for thirty minutes as we run for our lives while smoking grape flavored cigarillos. we get separated, i lose my phone, sleep on a merry-go-round in a park in october (so like it's 25 degrees at best) and walk to a starbucks to find a stranger that'll let me use their laptop to contact my friends bc i don't know their numbers, forgot my facebook password, forgot my gmail password to reset it, end up on this middle aged man's 15 year old dell laptop for forty minutes trying to figure out how to contact my friends while still fucked up, eventually a dude i partied with happened to walk past and i ran outside and got him to call dan, dan picks me up and we drive back home and eat pizza hut
Oh boy strap in for this one. So it's freshman year of college. I live in the dorms. I'm single and have next to no experience with girls/parties. It's Halloweekend (the weekend of Halloween so very many parties at SDSU). Unfortunately, I was not in a frat so I was not allowed in any frat parties, so I had to party in the dorm. Anyway. My roommate went to his gf football game (she was a cheerleader for a community college 30 minutes away) so I was just hanging out in my room with the door open to talk with anyone from my floor that wanted to hang. This girl from the floor below me (that I had just met a few days ago and showed off my baseball knowledge to in the study room) walks by my room and stops. She says hi and comes in and I'm talking with her. She has a bottle of cranberry juice and vodka and offers me some. Obviously, I accept. She says she has a full bottle of vodka in on her floor and she'll bring it up to party with me. A really attractive girl wants to hangout with me on Halloween while she is dressed up and wants to get me drunk? Hell yea! So she goes down to her floor and I wait for her to come back. But then about 20 minutes have gone by and she has not come back, leaving me to believe she had bailed :(. So I go across the hall to my friends room to drink and play super smash bros. About an hour or two goes by and I've had some shots just vibin on the floor. A few of the girls who went out to a party had come back and I was hanging out with them. Then the girl from the floor below came back with friends and was trashed. She was in our study lounge puking in the trash so I was in there taking care of her and helping her out. I was just rubbing her back and getting her water while holding her hair. There was a weird dude on our floor who was into her also trying to help but it was super weird and uncomfortable with him there because well as I said he was weird and creepy. After an hour, one of my other friends said Chase and Diego were letting people in their room (now these kids didn't talk much to anyone, except Chase. Me and him were boys). So I went over to their room to see what was poppin' because this was a moment of a lifetime. Chase was a little drunk but Diego was smashed and so was his gf. Total in the room it was me, Chase, Diego, his gf, a dude name Kayvon, and two other girls, Leah and Katie. I was just hanging out talking with everyone and then the three girls were talking about french kissing. Leah hadn't ever frenched so the other girls wanted to show her how. So they passed each other around like a bong just frenching it up. I was dumbfounded. This is what college is??? I'd seen videos but I didn't think they were real. Diego was getting super into his gf making out with these two other girls, kinda hyping them up. Once they had stopped frenching, Katie and Leah left the room. Diego started to get the spins and tried to lay down on his bed. Then he vomited on himself. Me, already experienced with vomit in the evening, tried to help him out and get him up and to the bathroom or at least the trashcan. I did what I could but then his gf was acting all crazy and yelling at me to get out of the room, so I did. I returned to the cute drunk girl on the couch, as I told her I would be gone for just a few minutes (it was really about 20-30). She was super excited to see me again. At that point, she asked me to watch the World Series with her, as the Mets and Royals were going to play Game 5 (I believe) on the Sunday (the next day). I told her of course I would and that I'd be watching in that very study lounge. After a little while longer, I told her she needed to go to bed so I walked her down to her room while the weird creepy dude followed us. I wasn't going to let him walk her to her room because frankly I didn't trust the dude. Got her to her room, said good night, and that was the end of that. I went back to my room and told my roommate and his gf about the eventful night I had. Jumping back to earlier in the story, cute girl said she had returned to my room about 30 minutes later but she couldn't get the vodka from her floor because some dudes had taken it. I had left my room at that point so she ended up going out to the party instead since I wasn't there. I did end up dating that girl for a decent amount of time, but that's for a different survey.

Rose you are a treasure, no ball loss for you
Frosh year. My roommates and I had a couple dorm floor mates who either only have weekday meal plans, or no meal plan at all. So we started casually stealing them some non-perishable goods to last them over the weekend. Through natural progression, this slowly turned into us creating an entire klepto organization that eventually fed most of our dorm house. We had a few tricks. One was bringing sports bags in with us - they would make you check backpacks at the door, but since sports bags might have expensive equipment, they let you take them in. So we'd just stuff them full of gallon bags of cereal, bagels, etc. Our dining hall had a patio area, where at night, you could see in from the outside, but not vice versa. We would load up our plates with one type of food, grab a gallon or two of milk, a tray of cookies, etc., saunter out to the patio, bag/pack everything up, and then toss it over the railing to our Outside Man down below, who would then take it back. At the end of the year, the dining hall had a program where you could return anything you "walked off accidentally" with with no repercussions, so we went to collect and tally any cups/bowls/plates/silverware we'd liberated, and found ourselves with two full boxes of stuff. Fearing *some* sort of repercussions from the sheer volume of stuff, we waited until the DH was closed one night, climbed over the railing, and left the boxes on a patio table.
This is amazing
I jumped out the window of the classroom once just to prove to a friend how oblivious our teacher was. I then walked in through the front door, greeted said oblivious teacher, and sat back down at my desk. She was very confused.

Question 3: Favorite Vacation You Took
does the scotland one kinda count as a vacation? if so, that one, if not, fuck idk I've only ever been to Vegas or Mexico on vacations so imma go with one of the 14 times I went to Mexico

That sounds fantastic
italy, rome's cool as fuck
Another high effort answer from Bnavis.
when my sister lived in vancouver i flew there and then we drove from vancouver to tijuana together and camped on beaches and shit
I've always wanted to camp out on a beach, that sounds dope
Well, since my brother and I played baseball year round from elementary school through high school, we didn't take many/any vacations. So I will have to say the only real vacation I've taken is my trip to Texas a few weeks ago. It was amazing getting to see my best friend with our other best friend. Shot real guns for the first time. Went to the beach a couple of times and the water was so warm, it was amazing. Had Texas BBQ and it was to die for. It was super cool being in a somewhat small town since I've grown up in San Diego/Temecula for my whole life and haven't lived in a farm-like town. It was a super cool experience and I would easily risk getting coronavirus to do it again.
Thats pretty dope, small towns are always fun to go to
my favorite 'vacation' ever was actually recent. i dogsit for my sister sometimes when she goes somewhere and get to spend a week or so getting paid to relax at her apartment in san francisco with her dog and drinking and eating good food. it's nice because it's not touristy, i'm not staying at a hotel or anything, it's more like dipping my toes into living in a big city for a week or two and then getting to return to my normal life afterwards. my 'favorite vacation' was when i was there for over a week last year just chilling with no responsibilities other than taking care of her dog
The best vacations are the ones where you do absolutely nothing
New Zealand, September 2019. Gorgeous land all-around, really good (and cheap) beer, fun time exploring with friends, Lord of the Rings shit everywhere, good beer, very nice populace.
Thats dope, New Zealand is on my must visit list
All my friends and I rented a house in Hatteras in the Outer Banks a few years ago. Massive house, right on the water, perfect water. Took a lot of acid, listened to Miles Davis' Bitches Brew while the mosquitoes ate my body apart while the sun went down.
Thats pretty dope

negotiate things with the unions to make sure i can do the following fire rob manfred from any position he may hold (also joe west, cb bucknor, angel hernandez, and laz diaz) fix the minor league wage system so players make a living wage; also adjust the prearb/arb/fa system for better fairness abolish the dh and/or maintain the al/nl system abolish bad extra inning rules and/or robot umps, if they have been implemented bring back the bullpen car more doubleheaders bring back disco demolition night
Love all of these except getting rid of the DH
very slowly turn baseball into blurnsball from futurama
- no interleague 2. no divisions, just leagues 3. 12 games against each league opponent, 168 game schedule (until expansion, see 9; after expansion this will become 165 games, 15 against each league opponent) 4. al dh, no dh in nl 5. top 3 make playoffs in each league, 1 gets a bye. 2v3 in a best of 7, winner vs 1 in a best of 9, best of 11 world series (i realize it's not fun viewing but it gets the best result) 6. fines for anyone who tries to institute unwritten rules or whatever the fuck, promote the shit out of guys like tatis/tim anderson that make the game fun 7. no baserunner on 2nd rule 8. legalize steroids 9. expand to 38 teams, play one season. bottom 7 in each league go down to make a 24 team mlb and a 14 team mlb2, following this, use the english promotion/relegation system but with 4 from each league now. so effectively, bottom 4 in the al automatically go down, top 3 from al-mlb2 automatically come up and then a playoff of 4v7 and 3v6 from mlb2's al (best of 3 round 1, best of 5 round 2) to determine the fourth team that rejoins the majors. 10. create a more fun environment at the game. music throughout the game, including during play, also every team has a small waterpark at the ballpark 11. encourage players to have cool cleats why is trevor bauer the only one taking advantage of this 12. go back to pre-2017 balls
Jiggy gets it
make the wild card a 3 game series played in 2 days (games 1 and 2 as a double header,) expand to 32 teams (portland and montreal/charlotte/nashville,) universal DH (i don't mind both leagues having different rules but universal DH is probably the pandemic induced rule that makes the most sense to keep,) execute Alex Bregman on live TV, don't kill the minor leagues, don't do any other dumb bullshit, sit back and watch the money stack
Yes absolutely bring back the Expos, fuck Ass Bergman
pay the minor leaguers, institute a salary floor, institute something resembling a RFA system instead of arb, ban Rob Manfred from baseball idk I'm tired

I am The Ogre. I come out in full Shrek cosplay. My finisher is the GET OUT OF MY SWAMP.

Only issue, Kane is already Undertakers brother so you would also be Undertakers brother. That said maybe we can bring Taker out of retirement for a one off with you
Ring Name: The Notorious Ruairious. Gimmick: I am a Northern Irishman who uses a wicked head butt to stun and knock out opponents. I have swagger, but am very humble. I throw off my opponents by complimenting their bodies rather than trash talking them. Finisher: I get the opponent on the ground and do a jig over them, as my kicks knock them unconscious.
This is a dope gimmick, would likely book you to face Sheamus for 3 months before going for the WWE Title.
Ring name is Anne Phibian, my finisher is a Frog Splash and my gimmick is that i am extremely into frogs and i brutally beat down opponents and share Frog Facts with the audience on the mic while they are incapacitated
Instant top heel in the Women's division. Would book you to face Charlotte Flair at Wrestlemania for the Women's Title.
The Mortician (Cory *Graves*). My gimmick would be crawling my up through the bottom of the ring to start each match. We would then have to wait for the mat to be repaired before beginning the match. Finisher: The Scalpel - I run back and forth between the ropes a few times, gaining momentum, eventually bouncing off, going into a horizontal pencil dive motion, and kicking my opponent square in the chest.
I can see some good feuds between you and The Fiend Bray Wyatt. Could be a good wrestlemania match.
Bitch, I'm Big Pepsi I'm sponsored by Pepsi Co. to deliver the sweet taste of Pepsi products to the world, BY FORCE The Baja Blaster - I yeet a full cup of MTN DEW Baja Blast (tm) into my opponent's eyes before hitting them with a shoryuken from street fighter
I dig it. Will book you as a main eventer before having you job to Roman Reigns and then banish you to the midcard forever
My ring name is "El Ratoncito Miguel" which translates to "The Little Rat, Miguel". My gimmick is that I always pretend I'm not actually there to fight, I'm just lost and looking for directions. I insist way beyond a humorous amount of time that I'm really not a wrestler and you must have me mistaken and how do you get to Union Street. Then, when everyone's going home and the lights are turned off, that's when I attack. My finisher is called Open-Face Slap, where I run to one side of the ring and then charge full speed at you and open face slap you.

i don't believe in my ability to survive alone in an apocalyptic scenario so i would determine if i'm reasonably close to a costco. if i think i'm close enough i believe a society of about 200-300 people could survive in a barricaded costco for several months at least without issue, and i will try to get a footing there. if i can't make it to something like that i will seek out the strongest most prepared looking person in my neighborhood and pray they show mercy.

Question 11: What is your happiest memory?
that's an incredibly personal question that I will not answer because it will make me emotional!
that one time i homered in little league
Was it a moon shot?
watching the 09 world series win with my dad
That was an amazing year
being held by someone who loves me dearly
honestly last new years me and gf and a few friends went to a rave and got drunk/did a fuckton of ecstasy and danced our asses off then went to this little hidden rooftop in downtown saskatoon that i stashed a few bottles of tequila and some cigarettes on and danced and smoke and drank up there and yelled at strangers on the street until like 4 then got an uber home, passed out, and then made a fuckpile of waffles and watched horror movies in the basement all new years day it was so fucking fun
Thats fucking awesome
Oh man this is a tough one. There are two that stand out in my mind, but I'm not sure which one to go with. I will tell another story about the cute girl I mentioned earlier in this survey. So this was a few months later (4 or 5). We started dating shortly after that Halloween night for the record. We spent pretty much everyday together since we lived just a floor apart and quickly became best friends. Anyway, it was a few months later and we were in her room. It was a Friday and I didn't have class until 1 on Fridays. We were making out on her bed and at one point she stopped and just looked at me. She started crying and I was confused so I asked her what was wrong. Through a cracked voice she says "I love you." It was the first time anyone had ever told me they loved me in that way and I had been thinking about telling her that I felt the same way leading up to this day but was too scared to. When she said it, I was then able to say it, which surprised her because I wasn't a very open person back then. It's one of the best feelings to have someone you love tell you that they love you back. And even though we aren't together anymore, the memory is still a good one for me, because it reminds me that I can be loved and I can feel love for someone, even in times when those things don't seem possible.
This brought a tear to my eye my dude
it feels slightly underwhelming to call it my happiest memory because it didn't last in the end but i think the most undeniably happy thing i can think of is entering my first real romantic relationship as a teenager. a lot of that time of my life i was fighting with depression and a genuine and significant romantic relationship was a realization that i could be deserving of love from other people and that i could connect and relate to another person in ways i was afraid i wasn't capable of.
This fucking hit me hard because I've been there
Camping with my brother and parents. Usually our trips involve some amount of shouting and fighting, even the really good ones. But this trip, we just spent three wonderful days in the wilderness, enjoying nature, eating good campfire foods, laughing and playing board games. Some catchphrases were spawned while playing those games that my family still quotes to this day.
That's awesome, I'd give anything to have that kind of time with my family again
I went to a concert with a friend of mine that had just left the company we had worked for. She was in a relationship but she asked me to go with her because she had an extra ticket. It was a great time, really fun, great vibes. Didn't realize at the time that would be the person I'd be living with about 3-4 years later. Don't know if it's my happiest memory but it makes me really happy, know what I mean?
Thats awesome dude
Either various moments on my solo bike trip across the country where I just felt total tranquility and satisfaction near the end of my trip OR this one time when my first nephew was like one and I was his favorite person and I took him out for a walk. He was distracted and I walked a little ahead of him and when he turned and noticed me a little further away, we made eye contact, he grinned a wide smile and then ran to me arms wide open for a hug. Kids do that kind of stuff all the time to people they know and trust but I've never felt such pure unadulterated love as I have from that kid in that moment. There is no artifice or conditionality in that sort of love. It felt good to be the cause of that someone else's sheer joy and seeing his face light up when he saw me, thats a memory that always brings me happiness.

2020.09.08 22:42 PhattestKids The Washington Justice are the best team to represent Season 3 of OWL
Like many people in this sub, I was a little salty after the Paris game when a team with four regular season wins managed to knock out one of the top teams in the league from their playoff run. Then I started thinking about how this monster of a team isn’t finished yet and could potentially dominate the lower brackets to make it into Korea, shutting out another team that has been dominant all year. But the more I think about it, the more I think this team winning the Grand Finals would be the perfect representation of the 2020 season.
Begin 2020. Justice start out their year looking promising but have Visa issues for one of their main tank players and end up really struggling to beat out lower tier teams in homestands. Then lockdown rolls around and many players begin to struggle with playing for the league without the travel and stage appearances they were promised. Players mentals start suffering and Justice lose two of their most promising players in Corey and Stratus. On top of that visa issues are made even worse by COVID.
Then the Vancouver Titans management seem to absolutely shit the bed (with COVID issues being the straw that broke the camels back) and disband one of the greatest rosters in OWL history. Two of these players looking for a home find refuge in the open arms of Washington. But they still haven’t found their meta and main tank is still an issue. They continue to suffer but mostly everyone except an Egg believe that if things fell in place, they have the potential to be a decent team.
Enter the Dallas Fuel. The eternal war between Dallas vs Fuel rages on in Season 3 and the climax of the battle leads to them dropping Decay, their star player right after the leagues signing date ends. But then because of visa problems being worsened by COVID the league allows teams to sign players to hold the spot of players that are abroad. Now Washington’s earliest struggle becomes a massive advantage. Justice snatch the MVP potential talent when it’s impossible for nearly any other team.
Meanwhile on Overwatch forums fans have been upset for months because shield girl and shield centaur have been sucking the fun out of matches. The dev team publicly executes them both in an attempt to make playoffs more fun to watch and then buff the Hog on their way out for for good measure. Ladder is thrown into chaos.
For the first time in OWL history the meta has the potential to completely exclude the one role that Justice are really weak at, main tank. Oh, and their new Star DPS player also happens to be a Zarya god.
Then because of the awkward year caused by COVID issues the league changes the playoff format to allow every team to qualify. Now the Justice armed with three players from crumbling teams enter into the playoffs with a meta so strange that not even the greatest minds in France could have predicted it’s existence.
Now this isn’t to say that everything just perfectly fell into the Justice’s lap and it was easy for them. Ttuba, Aimgod, and Ark have massively stepped up and performed really well. Their management and coaching seems to have improved substantially also. But if you think about it, COVID issues made the stars align for Justice with picking up Decay after the signing window, creating a bigger rift between Titans and players to allow their signing, qualifying for playoffs despite only four regular season wins, and then the devs created the perfect cherry on top with the double off tank meta that seems to have caught many teams off guard.
So would it be satisfying to watch a team that has worked their asses off all year and maintained a dominant spot in the standings like the Dragons or Fusion to win? Sure. But that would not be 2020. What would be 2020 is for the perfect storm to meet massively unprepared victims and destroy anyone’s ideas of what this year would be.
I’m not sure if Justice will be able to climb out of the lower brackets with the tough road they have ahead of them but honestly I’ll be rooting for them. Not because they’re my preferred team to win, but they’re the perfect team to represent what this year has been. A lot of people have said that this year will have an asterisk next to it because the issues created by COVID lead to an awkward year competitively. However if a team with four regular seasons went on to become the champions there would be no asterisk needed. They would be the asterisk. No one would question that year. We would just look back and think “oh yeah, that’s 2020. Fuck 2020.”.
TL;DR: perfect storm disease destroys society and allows for the creation of perfect storm team that destroys the league.

2020.08.09 15:12 UniverseMan_2 In lights of recent news about Yoshinori Ono leaving Capcom, I decided to resurrect this old post I've made criticizing his work during his stay in the Capcom offices.
Post is 2 years old, but it's more relevant than ever:
So earlier today I reported a rumour about the state of Deep Down
, a new Capcom game that was announced along during one of those early PS4 presentation events back in March 2015. The game was supposed to introduce the current gen in-house engine made by Capcom, the Panta Rhei Engine (also called Sophia Engine according to the person that reported the rumor), the successor of the MT Framework from the past generation of Capcom games. Yoshinori Ono was involved as the producer of this game, and it generated a decent amount of positive reaction, especially for its graphics. After it got rebranded from a full 60 bucks game to what seemed to be a F2P kind of game, Capcom went full radio silent. We didn't hear news about this game until this post from a user named Dusk Golem was made on a website I won't name (archived link is available in the already reported thread, see above), who finally expressed some valid informations about the state of the game. Needless to say that the game is pretty much dead, due to the Panta Rhei Engine being a very powerful but also not really stable engine that was supposedly a pain in the ass to develop with. They apparently tried to rebrand the game again, this time porting it on the Unreal Engine 4, a less powerful but more efficient engine that happens to be easier to develop with, until they decided to completely forget about the game's existence.
This was a report of the rumor, and you there may ask "what does this have to do with the themes expressed in the thread's title?"
After this whole Deep Down fiasco I thought about Yoshinori Ono's output for Capcom and how every game produced by him (besides Street Fighter IV, pretty much his only real success as of right now) ended up being sort of a disaster in some way or the other, and also at his work prior to SFIV. But before I go deep into what are Yoshinori Ono's mistakes I want to make you refrain from making some typical statements I often see when someone criticizes Yoshinori Ono's work. "Yoshinori Ono is a producer, not a developer. Therefore, for ANY mistake made by games produced by him need to be addressed to the relative programmers and directors (for example: battle systems = Battle Director, and so on). Since he's a producer, he has no input on development of said games"
I do partially agree that the more specific issues with the games need to be addressed to the relative developer working on that criticized part of the game, but this is more of a general overview of Yoshinori Ono's output for Capcom and the SF franchise (looking at the overall direction he decided to take for the series) rather than a specific complaint. Also, Yoshinori Ono may not have the specific programming knowledge in order to make games feel in a certain way, but we'll later see that he definitely expressed the direction for this franchise. There is a reason why a game like Street Fighter IV is so reminiscent of SF2 and filled with nostalgia bait. "You're not allowed to say anything bad about Ono, leave the poor guy alone you fucking Kappa shitposter!"
I do agree that most people tend to express themselves in a really bad manner, showing really bad behaviour and terrible education, especially on the Internet, at times doing it in a really self-destructive way. But not every person is a bad-mannered 15-years old who doesn't know how to express himself/herself without sounding like a dick. It's also important from the listener's part to comprehend what's the issue expressed by the criticizing person (as long as it is well-spoken and well-educated) without strawing at flaws in order to diminish the point made by the criticizing person.
Now that I replied to these "template" posts, let's start with the actual critique of Yoshinori Ono's job as a producer and his influence on both the Street Fighter IP and Capcom. Prior to Street Fighter IV
Yoshinori Ono's first work for Capcom and for the Street Fighter series was as a Sound Director for the Dreamcast port of Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. Being new and unexperienced in general to work on videogames, Ono's role was mostly focused on sound management and, very occasionally, composing music. He composed Roll's theme for Tatsunoko VS Capcom
, for once. Also, it is rumored that the decision of adding the strong rap/hip-hop theme to the 3S soundtrack was his idea.
This was pretty much the only creative/active development work Ono ever did for Capcom (at least for what is known so far).
Besides those works, Yoshinori Ono was mostly involved as a producer for minor budget titles. Those titles weren't sellers, and some of them are still considered to be some of the worst games Capcom ever made. Some of these games were:
- Capcom Fighting Jam, arguably the worst fighting game Capcom ever made. It was pretty much a jab at the MUGEN community. Characters sprites came from other SF/Capcom fighting games, but unlike something like Capcom VS SNK 2 (which had copy-pasted character sprites and animations as well, but also new sprites for the SNK counter-part and a more distinct battle system) it didn't really grasp the attention of the FGC;
- Ominusha: Dawn of Dreams. The game that pretty much killed the whole series. Replacing the main character, Samanosuke, with a brand new one and dumbing down gameplay mechanics such as the critical dmg system, the game got a really tepid reception both critically and commercially.
He also produced Chaos Legion and Shadow of Rome, two Capcom games that were just as a fiasco in terms of sales but at least didn't have a long-lasting IP to live on.
So Yoshinori Ono's work was mostly focused on producing low budget games that didn't really hit the market in a meaningful way. It's safe to say that his résumé didn't look too hot. At least it looked like so until Ono proposed himself to produce the next Street Fighter entry... Street Fighter IV: A Deserved Success...?
Street Fighter III was a game really appreciated by the hardcore community, thanks to its stunning visuals and animations (still considered to be the best in the whole series to this day), generally more complex take on SF character designs (influence on characters was more obscure compared to your more traditional SF2 roster) and high execution gameplay, but it never struck with the casual audience that was still very nostalgic for the World Warrior roster. On top of that SFIII was nowhere as big SFII was, especially among said casuals, and it launched in an era where arcades were coming to an end.
Yoshinori Ono wanted Street Fighter IV to be the complete opposite of SFIII: a game that was sound with the SF2 nostalgic playerbase, very profitable and safe, but also less demanding gameplay-wise. Profitability and commercial success were Ono's priorities for SF2. The game was built around SF2 nostalgia, it launched by literally having the whole SF2 roster ready to be playable (at least on consoles, on arcades you needed to beat the Arcade Mode under specific conditions in order to get characters such as Sagat) with a minor bunch of newcomers.
"I wanted to give that feeling where you come back, and it's like you're playing Street Fighter 2 on the SNES, so when I came on-board and I talked to the team and I said that we're making Street Fighter 4, everyone on the dev team was giving me all these proposals that were trying to go beyond Street Fighter III again!"
Instead, Ono steered his team away from that thought process and tried to use the technology of the time to make a new Street Fighter 2 for the 4th entry in the franchise.
"We ended up going in that direction, and it really paid off because we were able to bring back a lot of the old timers that were playing Street Fighter 2, who remembered the game and thought it was an awesome game," stated Ono.
In order to make a small budget prototype that could show off to Capcom executives that a new Street Fighter with a huge emphasis on the SF2 roster and less demanding gameplay would work, Yoshinori Ono hired the dev studio DIMPS, mostly known for cheap games such as Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 and Dragonball Budokai games, to work on SFIV (also the CEO of Dimps being literally the original director of the very first Street Fighter helped in finding a connection between the two parts).
The result was, needless to say, a success: Street Fighter IV (at least the vanilla version) became the second best selling Street Fighter game ever made, right after SF2. He was proven right that people had indeed a strong nostalgia for SF2, and that slightly dumbing down the game actually helped in creating a brand new community.
In what seems to be a nice and dandy result for Ono, Dimps and Capcom, however, something was lost. Because Ono's biggest priority became popularity and success over quality, even at costs of cutting budget down in order to pander to a really nostalgic audience who would blindly follow the SF2 train in order to play again as their beloved characters, the series lost a part of itself. Because the SFIII fanbase was considered nothing more than a niche community (and let's be honest, it was that) therefore not profitable, Ono and Dimps focus was more on gaining new audience rather than improving the game's quality by listening to feedback. The 3D rendering of SFIV models wasn't the best, character animation looked stiff most of the time and the characters themselves weren't pretty to look at. So much was lost of the appeal of SFIII, the fast-paced, hardcore oriented gameplay feeling, son of that long forgotten side of Capcom from the '90s, or the striking visuals and sprites that are still considered to be some of the best ever made for any game PERIOD. http://www.dinofarmgames.com/a-pixel-artist-renounces-pixel-art/
With Ono's attempt at searching for a bigger but also less educated audience, Capcom fighters lost that clear sign of quality that distinguished them all in the '90s. Fancy character specific intros made space for long lasting cinematic supers that take so much gameplay time, fast attacks and smears were replaced by long hitstops and a general clunkier feeling.
Despite being a success, SFIV was also the game that killed '90s Capcom fighting games.
This didn't stop for Street Fighter IV to develop itself, at least in a competitive environment. The game was still filled with tech, enough to warrant gameplay variety. Long combos were pretty common due to the FADC (Focus Attack Dash Cancel) mechanic, which allowed the characters to cancel animations in order to open new combo opportunities, and there was still some form of high execution, especially given by 1-frame links.
However both of these things weren't seen always in a good light, even by pro players themselves, as the game was also filled with Option Selects and the combo length itself was considered too long-lasting. These issues didn't stop the competitive playerbase, filled with new players and OGs, to overall enjoy the game for what it is.
But what comes after Street Fighter IV, Yoshinori Ono's biggest success? This is where the critical part begins. After Street Fighter IV: The Fall of Ono
I'll just say this: Yoshinori Ono revealed himself to be nothing more than a one-hit wonder
. Street Fighter IV was really successful, it had a big following despite its compromises and some people still have fond memories about it. But what came after that was nothing more than a disaster. Street Fighter IV was still getting updates and new characters. Yoshinori Ono had a fond friendship with the current Tekken director, Katsuhiro Harada, and both decided to make a cross-over game:
- From Yoshinori Ono, Capcom and Dimps part, it was Street Fighter X Tekken;
- From Katsuhiro Harada and Bandai Namco, it was Tekken X Street Fighter;
The idea around these games was simple: each team developed their own kind of fighting game but with Tekken characters meeting SF ones. The game had some of the best trailers ever made for a fighting game
. The game got some general mechanic revisions so that it would feel more fitting for both Tekken players and newcomers, on top of the needs from the SFIV playerbase.
It seemed like the game was going to be alright, until Capcom decided to make some really baffling decisions that eventually lead Street Fighter X Tekken to its death:
- Anti-consumer corporate practices: the game was filled with all kind of DLCs. One of the new mechanics for the game (and also one of the most criticized ones in current times) was the addition of "gems": said "gems" would either grant your team (the game was a 2v2 fighting game) some buff if you meet specific gameplay requirements, or even make the overall experience easier. Needless to say this wasn't really appreciated from the competitive community, as it detracted the fighting aspect of the game with a RPG-like buff system. Said gems could also be acquired with your respective online store, giving the player an advantage by buying gems. But even this was nothing compared to what caused a really big drama within the whole gaming industry. Some DLC characters, that were supposed to be bought online, were just locked in the disc. This was a really shameless attempt from Capcom's part to rip off money out of players' wallets, making them literally re-buy something that was already available in their disc. This generated lots of drama and news and was even reported by bigger gaming outlets, and it is to this day still considered one of the worst examples of bad anti-consumer practices. On top of that modders still managed to unlock them without paying a cent.
- Lack of FGC interest. Because the FGC wasn't too happy with some of the design decisions made by Capcom, the community was losing interest in the whole game. Not only that, but the vanilla version of the game was known for the very annoying standing jab pushblock (or lack thereof) and frequent Time-Out scams. The game was dropped after two years of staying at EVO.
Meanwhile, the Bamco's take on the cross-over was post-poned and delayed to a later date. To this day people are unsure if it will ever come out.
And now here we are with Street Fighter V. The game had one of the worst launch ever for a fighting game, missing so much content (leaving the casual playerbase's hands empty, the same casual playerbase Yoshinori Ono was so willing to support and focus on with Street Fighter IV) and having a really lackluster online. On top of that, they streamlined the gameplay from an already simpled down SFIV, by reducing the combo length and going from a very high execution link requirement to a way too lenient input buffer. The game models, while having a drastic improvement over SFIV's gorilla-like models, still lack of that visual appeal older Capcom fighting games used to have and the whole presentation just reeks of low budget. The game also was released earlier than what it was intended to be, due to their will of releasing the game before the Capcom Pro Tour officially begins, hurting the final game's quality.
Capcom added an Arcade Mode in the desperate attempt at gaining back that lost audience, but it was too late. Ultimately the FGC is the only community left for SFV. While there was an attempt at replacing the "buy the new update in order to get a bunch of new content, including new characters" by introducing the possibility of gaining important content such as characters and stages with a "free" in-game money system named Fight Money, Capcom decided to reduce the ways to gain said in-game money so that the players are more willing to spend actual money and get more profit after the fiasco at launch (also the reason why they're filling the game with so many costumes). Needless to say the game didn't meet the sales expectations two months after it came out, and it only reached that number two years later.
Yoshinori Ono also was the executive producer for Marvel VS Capcom: Infinite, a game that shares similar issues with SFV: bad presentation, terrible corporate decisions and general lack of budget and effort. The game was such a flop that they decided to remove it from their own eSports line, the Capcom Pro Tour, also due to bad blood with Disney and Marvel.
Let's also not forget that Yoshinori Ono decided to change Blue Castle Games to Capcom Vancouver and leave the Dead Rising IP in their hands, leading to the series death. Dead Rising 4 was a disaster both commercially and critically.
I do hope that whenever people try to lie about Yoshinori Ono's mistakes in order to defend really bad corporate and design practices they'll look at this post and realize that not everything Yoshinori Ono did was good. It's depressing to see IPs such as Street Fighter and Marvel VS Capcom melting down the way they're doing. It seems like someone is realizing that Yoshinori Ono's attempts haven't been the best as of lately, even in Capcom Japan considering the rumor about Deep Down. I stll hope the best for these IPs, they definitely deserve better than this.

2020.08.05 00:31 __justsayin__ Globe: As hundreds of stores shut down, retail landlords cut rents in bid to help struggling companies survive
Some retail landlords are starting to chop rents to help tenants survive as the coronavirus pandemic enters its fifth month and a flood of retailers close stores and seek creditor protection.
The Retail Council of Canada estimates that one in five stores are now vacant across all types of malls, plazas and big-box centres. A growing number of brands – including Aldo, Ann Taylor, Reitmans, DavidsTea and Mendocino – have announced plans to shutter hundreds of locations.
While the economy is showing muted signs of recovery, retail continues to languish, especially in enclosed malls. Landlords are being forced to make concessions, as they balance rental revenue and their ability to fill vacant spaces with new tenants.
“We are taking a hit like everybody else,” said Eric Carlson, chief executive officer of B.C.-based Anthem Properties, which has $5-billion in retail, office and industrial properties in Western Canada and the United States. “Retail can’t survive without customers. Every landlord will want their retailers to survive,” he said.
DavidsTea to close 82 retail locations in Canada amid COVID-19
Anthem is forgiving rent for some of its tenants that were not allowed to open. It expects grocers, liquor stores and others with strong sales to pay full rent. But after months of deferrals, Mr. Carlson has had to change course for his hardest hit retailers.
“You have to give them some slack and give them an abatement,” Mr. Carlson said. “It’s not just out of virtuous nobility that you take that. It’s rational self-interest. The more everyone does well, the more everyone comes through. The better we will all do in the long run.”
Tenants are also pushing for new rent deals that are based on a percentage of their sales instead of the standard fixed amount every month. Landlords are reluctant to provide this because the rental income is unpredictable, as well as a logistical nightmare to verify sales of privately held companies. If landlords agree to an interim period of percentage rent, they are asking for something in return, such as a lease extension.
“More of these deals are being struck,” said Jordan Karp, who heads Savills Canada’s retail unit and represents tenants and landlords. Mr. Karp said he has told landlords: “At the end of the day, do you want them to be there and operating or do you want someone brand new? A lot of landlords say, ‘I want them here, so when we come back on the other side, they are there.’”
SmartCentres REIT, which operates 165 retail plazas in the country and leases space to 115 Walmarts, has agreed to percentage rent for a handful of its tenants.
“We are customizing rent payments around the realities of each vulnerable retail tenant’s situation, giving them as much as we can, taking into account the reality of our own situation,” said SmartCentres CEO Mitchell Goldhar, adding his trust is on track to collect more than 90 per cent of the rent because Walmart and Loblaw grocery stores make up a large part of its portfolio.
Enclosed malls are in a different position. Their properties were among the last to reopen amid crowd restrictions and physical-distancing requirements. Major operators collected about 15 per cent of their rent in May and approximately 25 per cent in April, according to real estate services firm Jones Lang LaSalle Inc.
Since those dismal months, rent collection is rebounding. But it is still below normal levels. Store hours have been reduced, retailers are failing and even if they have reopened, they are attracting fewer shoppers.
On an afternoon late in July, one of the country’s most profitable malls, the Eaton Centre in downtown Toronto, was subdued. Most stores were advertising deep discounts. The food court was quiet, with staff behind counters beckoning shoppers to their restaurants and a string of eateries closed. There were lineups for a couple of brands, Apple, Lululemon Athletica and Uniqlo Co., which were restricting the number who could enter their shops. But other stores had little traffic.
“Malls have been quieter than they would have been. The less people in shopping centres, the less sales there will be,” JLL executive vice-president Tim Sanderson said. “The longer this goes on, the more people will change their shopping patterns and go online.”
Downtown Vancouver and Toronto, once hubs of activity with a giant office work force, are now mostly vacant. Street retailers in their cores that were once teeming with activity are much quieter.
“It’s pretty tough because there isn’t the volume of people coming downtown,” said Scott Lee, JLL’s executive vice-president of retail for Western Canada. “The domino effect is that people are not eating out much, not grabbing as much coffee and not shopping as much in general,” he said.
In Vancouver, at a popular shopping area on Robson Street, JLL said the vacancy rate is 15 per cent today compared with 9 per cent before the pandemic. Similarly, in Toronto, at a busy shopping area on Queen Street, vacancy jumped to its highest level in two years and rents hit the lowest since early 2016, when the brokerage started tracking rents.
“With more space coming available and fewer tenants in the market there will be downward pressure on net rental rates,” said Brandon Gorman, JLL’s senior vice-president of retail in Toronto, who represents landlords.
Mr. Gorman said tenants are looking for percentage rent deals that convert to a fixed rent at a later date, as well as later possession dates and rent-free periods.
Even strip malls, where stores such as Walmart remained open through the pandemic and others were allowed to open earlier than enclosed malls, are losing revenue. Some of the chains that typically lease space in plazas, such as Hudson’s Bay Co., The Brick, GoodLife Fitness and Cineplex Entertainment, did not initially pay the rent when non-essential shopping was closed. And because of their size, they did not qualify for taxpayer-funded rent relief for small businesses.
As of the end of July, taxpayer-funded rent relief had been provided for 63,000 small-business tenants, according to the federal finance department. However, Ottawa’s rent relief program is due to finish at the end of August after two extensions.
Major mall operators Cadillac Fairview, Oxford Properties and Ivanhoé Cambridge have provided deferrals and applied for the federal government’s rent relief. Oxford has submitted more than 1,000 applications, on behalf of mostly its small retailers. Cadillac has about 1,400 tenants that qualify for the relief. Ivanhoé had deferred rent for more than 70 per cent of its retailers at its malls.
“Brick-and-mortar stores will need to reinvent themselves, not only because of the rise of e-commerce but also because consumers’ changing lifestyles and shopping habits,” said Diane Brisebois, president of the Retail Council of Canada.

2020.07.11 12:40 tomatopotatotomatoe [IWantOut] 26m Designer UK -> US/Australia/Canada/Europe
hey reddit, looking for some thoughts, insight or anything else that will help make a big relocation/life decision a little easier. thanks so much!! bit of an essay, but hopefully provides a glimpse of context
- 26, male, british. currently based in Edinburgh, Scotland. born Merseyside, England
- 2/3 years experience as a digital product designer who codes (currently work at a 5 person health-tech startup building SaaS products) this is my first career job and i have essentially had the lead design role since joining as we're such a small team.
- Bachelors in Graphic Arts & Design, then did CodeClan up in Edinburgh (a 16 week software development Bootcamp course)
- English speaking, no criminal convictions, financially stable (apart from student loan ofc lol), no dependencies, and ultimately grateful to have options and be able to create a post like this
i moved to Edinburgh just over 2 years ago to do a coding course to help transition and kick off my career, and its worked out exactly how i would have hoped, where im now working on designing and building products to help people live longer at a company which i love and people i love, and have built a nice little life, with ideal job (career progression, continued learning), flat, friends (truthfully not that many friends as i always knew Edinburgh was a short term stay so i didn't want to get too invested so have instead focused on personal and career development instead).
but, im at a stage in my career and life where i want a big move with new experiences, opportunities and excitement before i get to an age where i really want to settle down. im looking to make the move in a year(ish) time--theres no fixed date as it depends on lots of things. but ultimately i won't be moving until im happy with the quality of my portfolio, which for my industry is my living CV which will serve me for future opportunities, as if you have good quality projects in your portfolio which show your execution and ability to storytell and problem solve, then that's the key to interviews, then hopefully offers from great companies.
i am keen to move to a big city, as Edinburgh has a very small town-feel--which would be great a few years down the line for me--and somewhere i may end up coming back to as it really is ideal--if i were at that stage in my life...but ultimately, i have the big city itch i need to scratch.
i love the startup scene, with technology and building products, so am keen to move to a city which embraces and has a buzzing culture around this. as im blessed by no dependencies and financial stability, im very flexible on where i could be based.
ive been looking at Canada (Vancouver, Toronto); Australia (Sydney, Melbourne); Amsterdam; Stockholm; Berlin; [and insert any other options]; but ultimately would love to get to San Fran or New York, but h1b palaver seems like it might be a tricky one to orchestrate, unless i were to move to a big organisation in say London, then try get a transfer in a year or so time, although i don't really want to go to London, as i want somewhere new which i haven't experienced before. however, i wouldn't rule it out completely as it really is a booming city on my doorstep with the easiest point of entry for my situation.
one of the biggest things im trying to work through is the fact that if i were to move to say, Vancouver for a couple of years with the plan to then move to SF/NY after that (if visas etc all aligned nicely), i will be at such a different stage in my life, and ideally id want to get to SF/NY within the next few years so it doesn't feel too late and i can experience it for a year years then move out to a more long term place with better work life balance. as at the moment, im very much loving the career progression and focus, but i know a shift will come in a few years time where ill want to meet someone and begin to shift my priorities, and that's why i seem to have put some form of timer on the whole situation, and please say if you think this is just societal pressures bs and really is not a factor
as i can process a 5 year plan and visualise that in some capacity, but its trying to think how i can think longer term and end up not regretting or feeling like i missed the bus on things or left things too late to go for
would love to hear your thoughts on all of this, as i think im in need of some outside perspective to help. would be most appreciated!! thanks

2020.07.09 18:53 TomLikesGuitar People here are too hard on the EA Vancouver developers
For this topic I have the convenient combination of being a game development engineer with experience working on AAA games, a real life hockey player, and a person who has played the EA NHL series perennially for a LONG time.
My experience in the industry leads me to believe that the problems those of us on this subreddit (aka. the hardcore demographic) have with this series are essentially unsolvable and that any solution would be complicated or not feasible.
Regardless of that, though, the hate that people throw at the developers is nuts. Personally, I TRY
to listen to the community for the games I work on, but the way that people give feedback about video games on social media makes it REALLY fucking hard to do that sometimes. This subreddit community is one of the worst I have ever seen.
Don't get me wrong, I understand the frustrations and agree sometimes, but I think they need to be put in perspective. The Problem
I'm sure many of you know this deep down, but the problematic cycle is basically that:
- EA Vancouver doesn't get a ton of resources for NHL, so they can only do so much in a certain time span. This is a huge oversimplification, but if you start at the release date and then account for post-mortem time on the current release, maintenance on the current release, pre-production and design, prototyping new features, different QA stages, and time spent in console TRC and disk manufacturing, you are left with very little resources for actual substantial changes to be made each year. For reference, on other AAA titles, (even direct sequels where the engine and gameplay change very little) pre-production/prototyping can take up to 2 years alone.
- The lack of demographics interested in the game (and this sport tbh) means that nearly all development is focused on things that will either increase revenue from current users (aka. HUT), or attract new users with flashy meaningless crap (stuff like "crushing hit reactions!" or "new team celebrations!" lol). So that really allows for almost no time to be spent on fixing old/low priority bugs, redesigning UI to fix frustrations, innovating, improving the core gameplay, etc...
- From what I can tell, the game hits projections in revenue every year. As a result, EA allocates the same amount of resources as it did the previous year to the NHL project.
- Go to step 1.
So what are the frequently said things people seem to throw out here?
Like, I get it, the game isn't perfect. You know it, I know it, and EA Vancouver knows it.
- "The developers are stupid" - This is such a weird thing that I see with video games for some reason. The developers are doing their job as directed by the producers. No AAA developers are writing bug free code with perfectly balanced mechanics on their first pass. Producers dictate how much time is spent on polish, balance, and bug fixes, and if you don't follow that schedule then you are a bad developer.
- "The producers are assholes" - Again, this is another silly scapegoat. The producers are doing their job as directed by higher ups and/or directly by the publisher. If they don't focus on the features the publisher wants then they are a bad producer (and the studio might get dropped).
- "The publisher is evil" - And finally, to complete the trilogy, the final unfair scapegoat. The publishers are doing their job as mandated by the executives. If they don't drive the game to focus on generating revenue then they are bad at their job and ultimately will make the CEO look bad in front of the shareholders (who are ultimately "in charge" and PROBABLY don't care about the games at all). If you think all of that sucks then yeah, publicly traded corporations aren't perfect. This is how they work though and no single person in the entire chain is responsible.
Personally it's good enough for me to buy and play hundreds of hours every year and I assume that's the case for MOST of the people here. You can (and should) complain about things you don't like and provide feedback however you can, but the toxic vitriol and hate that gets thrown at the developers is naive and kind of immature.
Bad Feedback: The developers of this game are stupid. Constructive Feedback: I don't like playing goalie and this is why:
Bad Feedback: EA is evil Constructive Feedback: I wish EA would focus more on EASHL than on HUT.
Bad Feedback: Wow EA, fix your garbage physics system. I'm never buying this game again because of this. Constructive Feedback: I just got this crazy glitch
